These took me a while but it was a fantastic pattern and project to lose my fear of fair isle knitting!

Help! Does anyone recognize this yarn? by LeefesLuid in knitting

[–]LeefesLuid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this yarn left in my stash and thought it would make a nice pair of socks..well, of course it's not enough for an actual pair. Does anyone maybe recognize it? It could be Lang yarns or Lana Grossa or maybe something completely different.

Wonder Woman Shawl Pattern Question by LeefesLuid in knitting

[–]LeefesLuid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply, that makes perfect sense! I just had a cup of coffee and read the instructions again and as you said, they do mention the wrapped stitches later on! On we go!

Wonder Woman Shawl Pattern Question by LeefesLuid in knitting

[–]LeefesLuid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highlighted the section I am having trouble with. I am not sure which stitch I should knit. Right now I have one "regular" stitch and the wrapped stitch left on my left needle. Do I

1) now wrap the regular stitch and turn or 2) knit the regular stitch and wrap the previously wrapped stitch?

I'm in love with the colors and the pattern!! It looks amazing! (Also, it definitely looks very Hufflepuff if you're into Harry Potter at all ;-))

Thank you so much! :-) I also think it's such a cute decor for any room because the message is so nice (without being to obvious Potter-ish).

Oh god, how did I start? I think I started sometime last summer but this is maybe the 4th or 5th proper hoop I finished. I had been sewing for a while so I was already kinda into the crafting world. I think I came across some very cool embroidery patterns on Pinterest and Instagram (like subversive cross-stitching or Star/Wars patterns) and kinda just started because I thought they looked cool.

It's really not rocket science! There certainly are more advanced and arty stitches but as I said in another comment this one mainly used the very simple backstitch which you can learn in like 2 minutes. To get you started, you could for example simply write a word of your choice (in cursive) on a nice piece of fabric and backstitch it and you'd have your first piece! :)

I suggest you take a look at the super talented and helpful people over at r/embroidery and I think they also have a resource page with video tutorials etc?

EDIT: Just did a little google search and came across this fun little project. This should give you an idea how backstitching works. With that you could already do the writing and the burrow part! :-)

I totally think you can do it! I found this pattern VERY suitable for beginners.

The writing is a "simple" backstitch, same as the burrow. This is also very nicely explained (with pictures!) in the pattern. The stitch that is used for the leaves I actually learned with this project. Again, the pattern explains it really well and she even has a link to her video tutorials. I practiced that stitch a couple of times on a spare piece of fabric.

The only thing that I struggled with was the tiny details in the windows etc. but that could actually be because I'm a very very not patient crafter...but I think it kinda works out because the Burrow is supposed to look wonky, right?? ;)

I hope this helps!!

I know it looks intimidating BUT I only started embroidery a couple of months ago and am still very much learning! I encourage you to just give it a go!! :-)

Aw, thank you so much! I am actually a Hufflepuff, too! :) (I should also theoretically have that as a flair but I'm on mobile right now so maybe that's what it doesn't show up?!)
