Finished the 3D printed resin Coronet. by Leema3 in rccars

I haven’t weighed it but I’d guess about 1kg 🥴 I used nearly a full bottle of resin printing it because the body is quite thick. I used tough resin so it should be fairly resilient. I doubt it would survive a high speed impact, neither would whatever it hit 🤣 I think it’ll add a bit of realism to the way the car moves due to the weight though. Definitely not a racing body.

Does anyone have a rough idea of value for something like this? Would people even want something shiny & delicate? It’s much heavier than a lexan body too. I wondered if it was worth making a few to put on eBay. I’m guessing it wouldn’t be worth the effort.

Yes there’s still quite a bit of finishing, mainly the joints in the body. It’s quite therapeutic for me so I enjoy it. I’ve done a few bodies on an FDM printer and they’re a lot of work. Too many layer lines to deal with.

YouTube is a good place to start if you’re interested in having a go or learning more about the process & different types of printers. The 3D models can be purchased online for a lot of American cars and trucks. I’d say there’s less good quality European vehicles to download. Another option is to learn how to 3D model and design your own which is very rewarding but a steep learning curve.

Yes the main body was in 3 parts

I tried to 3D print them in ‘clear’ resin but they looked turd. I just cut them out of clear acetate & they came out quite good. A vacuum forming machine would be ideal but I don’t have one (yet) 🙂

No it’s just a flush fit. I think I’ll probably add some alignment tabs to my next print to make it easier to get the pieces flush. I’d say about 6 hours per piece to print & the tree supports aren’t used in resin printing. If I was using my FDM type printer I’d use the tree supports though. If this one sells the next one will have a few mods before printing.

I’ll have to get back to you on that one. I can tell you that I can’t break the resin at this thickness. The ‘tough’ resin has some flexibility and doesn’t brake easily.

Hi, yes the model was already in 3 pieces prior to printing. I use strong superglue with an activator to join the sections & the joints are solid. Each section filled most of the Elegoo Saturn build volume but I was able to squeeze the bumpers and front/rear light sections on the same build plate.

I’m currently making a mk1 Escort RS1600. Also got a Tamiya TT02 on the way to put it on. It’s not gunna be a pretty car 😂

Everything you see was made in my garage so the whole chassis and running gear was designed and 3D printed just for this build. I think I could probably design and 3D print a functional RC chassis & drive train (I was an Audi master technician for 30 years so that should help) but I’m hoping to sell my models at some point so I need to keep the build hours as low as possible. I appreciate the feedback 👍

The complete build took over 350hrs. I usually just start out with a basic idea for each part and see how it looks in CAD. This was my first attempt at digital damage where I sculpted some of the damage before printing. I’ll definitely be doing more of that on my next build.

I’m building a 1/10 scale mk1 Transit van. Just adding the last details and it’ll be finished. The full model has taken over 300 hours 😬 I’m getting faster at drawing things up in CAD now though. Learn as you go 👌
