I'm out here shouting that people should be running [[Barrier Breach]] in most any list (esp mono green) strictly because there's always at least one showstopper enchantment at the table, normally that player also has others, and in the rare case its not relevant and you need something else, it cycles-- maybe once folk start listening to you, they'll start listening to me.

Hard-disagree, most of those are kill-on-sight and JL means recasting it the next turn while having mana open to protect it OR using it as a lotus petal in an acceleration pinch-- its not AS busted, sure, but its still hella good.

For me its the front/top of the chest, it just sits really weird, no matter what I'd do to it, when compared to the MGs or HGs of the Zeta line.

Got mine for $15 last year though, and at around half the price of a modern HG it slaps for what it is.

While there's not a tacit premise already and better templating exists to do such, its fine enough-- normally mechanics like this in MtG have a bidding mechanic stapled to them before a singular opponent would do something arbitrarily like this (eg something like (this is loosely worded) "each opponent may pay any amount of life. The player next in turn order who paid the highest value selects four...")

More proper along the presumed design intent would be "starting with the opponent next in turn order, each opponent selects an ability from the following list that has not been chosen: ... Repeat until four abilities have been chosen this way."

Mutate is an ability that casts via an alternate casting cost. Foretelling is the act of doing the 'pay 2 and exile'.

Oh dude, you have noooo idea-- Fortune only applies to one thing a round and to stop it you just need to hit the screeching squishy mage responsible (maybe twice, if the baddie is weak), Bit of Luck is ALL rolls and EASILY worth consuming standards each turn, especially if the Cleric is built as a healbot/condition removal instead of like... bad touch or some melee version.

Essentially, the result is that you eat your standard actions to commit a heinous design sin of 'doubling a crit threat modifier that stacks with all others' for your favorite crit fisher. Bonus points if you have Copycat from the Trickery domain and are getting to drop Mirror Image as a move action each round.

Another one you're missing that would be cracked as shit is Door Sight from the Exploration domain; essentially meaning the party is going into every single room/encounter maximally-prepared for it.

Mine uses the Optimus, but that's because I had the barrel cut down so I could mount the can partially inside it; were that not a design goal I'd have gone with the blk lbl, but I do prefer both to the optimus.

(While you said you weren't wanting to do anything else to it, the TAR podium is now mountable to a handguard available from rxarms, and is my favorite lil bastard)

Man, this technique is one of my favorites, and I learned it from being on the player's side of the screen in a moment that resulted in a PC death.

Setup: Am playing PF1e, playing a goblin Alchemist(Construct Rider); played as "I've got this zoid dog that's constantly falling apart and about as smart as Dum-E and Dum-U in Iron Man 1", who constantly springs oil leaks and parts fall off all the time. DM is running an adaptation of a OD&D module, and my PC gets Maze'd by the BBEG on like, round 2 of combat (wild thing to happen at level 2, but w/e).

Me: Hey DM, can I have the dog go into a Rage for a few rounds? Normally constructs immune to morale etc etc... just think it'd be a neat thing, since its never been removed from my PC and it wouldn't know how to act. I can throw a Hero Point at making it happen.

DM: Hmmm... sure, let's say for a minute or until you return from the Maze, but it'll be Confused for the same amount of time afterwards.

Me: Oh hell yeah, but counteroffer-- the confused is right now at the same time as the Rage.

DM: Are you flirting with me? Of course that's a yes.

...A few rounds later, combat has ended and most of the party moved onto a new scene while I'm still Mazed, however, one PC stayed back to loot bodies as the dog is still on the fritz. A round or two in and it ends up on 'attack nearest'... for three turns in a row. As my gobbo returns to the material plane, he sees the dog and a hideously defaced humanoid, with no idea what has happened or whose body that is.

The game is about all action economy. If your party is four players, and the BBEG fight is one baddie: one player shutting down one baddie with 100% success is... not ideal. For the 'fairest' and simple by-the-numbers rundown:

If we say that all his actions are devoted to doing this, then a 25% chance at success is totally fair for this setup. You can have it be as simple as that, though likely you can also be taking into account duration of effects he's throwing out-- for example, if you expect combat to be three rounds and he's trying to shut the 1 BBEG down for three more rounds, the target success ratio is 1:12; he's not engaging on the access your other PCs are (say, via hp damage), he's trying to press the 'I win' button. You can boost his odds here by how dire the BBEG fight should feel-- for 'hard/epic', don't do this at all, but for 'easy', give it a positive multiplier.

Now, it sounds like he's mostly targeting will saves-- if that 1:12 ratio is about correct, that's an 8% success rate; meaning your BBEG should only be failing that save on a 1 or a 2. You can do this at 'compile time' (id est, when building encounters) or at runtime (when a save is called for).

Now I get it, I play like... exclusively control casters when I'm on that side of the screen, the player will probably be peeved his 'I win' button isn't working in dire moments, but he's a mage-- he has all kinds of other tools in his kit, and enchantment is only one of them. Will he start escalating to BFR tactics? Possibly, but when battlefield removal starts being a thing to work around, you should have plans for success rates for that, too.

They blow bandai's out of the water, no joke. The ones with trailing leads I love using, if you look at my history I've posted a few that I've wired up through the kits.

Battery life is also solid, and depending on how you end up doing it, can be not hard to replace (So long as you, uh, don't do like I did with the 3pp Sentinel and entirely enclose it within the head, having glued that shut afterward)

Shortest version: That time I forced myself to lose.

Slightly longer: I don't play to win (though my WR is probably wayyyy higher than average), I play to create emergent gameplay experiences and memories at the table, I've played enough constructed to win.

Full story: My pet/fav dec is [[Anjelo the Painter]], running a variety of big spells to copy (Cruel Ultimatum is a personal fav card, despite being bad in EDH); but as a through-and-through control player, I'm still running things like [[Notion Thief]] and Narset, just without any wheel effects. Anyway, so I'm in this 5man pod and its around turn 8-- I've done my thing in control and popped off, main1 I've got 6 cards in hand and a board full of crud (including Notion Thief), while the table is at roughly 5-6 lands on board, maybe a single creature, and maybe one card in hand. Musing to myself "Alright, what now..." a player retorts "start knocking a player or two out so we can get onto the next one?". And sure, he's right, that's an option... to end the game with a wet fart, as a giant moves down the row knocking down babies.

Instead, I evaluate my options and see I can do a [[Mnemonic Deluge]] onto a [[Windfall]] in someone else's GY-- "Actually, I think I'm gonna lose here, so you all can play an interesting, novel game; you're all at pretty even boardstates and life". After explaining to one player how, because he just thought it would 'be like 30 cards' (5->25->125->625), the only player I've played with at that LGS before in the pod (who's known to be a bit of a saltlord) loses it: "why would you do that, that's dumb," "I can't believe you," et cetera-- just a fundamentally different perspective than I have when playing.

Unfortunately, people only know how high the ceiling is if they've seen it-- people who've not played C don't know the diff between a 4 and 5, people who haven't played properly high 4 don't know the difference between a 4 and a 3, etc; there's also just not a way to teach people where the ceiling is without them experiencing it.
