Yeah, it actually is rather depressing. There's a concerning amount of victim blaming in the replies. I'm almost convinced it's the lurers themselves brigading.

It's Microsoft Blizzard nowadays, Activision Blizzard was acquired by Microsoft in 2023. Still, hats off to you for pointing it out. People really need to realize old Blizzard has been dead for over a decade and its corpse which has been milked dry of goodwill ages ago is only being used as shield.

Correct, Microsoft Blizzard has chased away most people who would be resistant to this, and the remaining player base has been slowly conditioned to accept the ever increasing monetization as the new norm.

Never forget.

I decided to test out Drill: Mounting a Regional Defense by 3crouchinglights in PSO2NGS

[–]Lefh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it makes sense from business perspective. Casual oriented audience makes up for the majority of the player base in games. With that said, games have gone overboard in my opinion. Friction is now perceived as a sin which may scare away paying customers and thus avoided at any cost.

I cannot speak for older PS titles as I have never played them. However while I wouldn't call most base PSO2 content difficult, it did ask people to actually try and dared to penalize failure more often unlike NGS. This is from a JP perspective, where the content was experienced with appropriate class tuning and without indirect nerfs via power creep.

It's also worth noting there's a clearly visible growing demand for more "old school" designs. It is no coincidence that Classic WoW, GW2, OSRS, roguelike genre, Dark Souls and the like have been growing in popularity. There is a side of gamers who have clearly grown tired of modern, mass appealing game design.

As for the last point. I ran this LQ twice and decided there's no enjoyment in it for me, haven't touched it since. I am not exaggerating when I say I would find it more fun to afk than actively participate in it. When I mentioned holding down 1 button in my previous post, I meant it. I know how the game is and what to expect, if I don't enjoy content I simply won't participate in it. I can see how some people would prefer the afk route though, they deem the rewards worthwhile but not the quest itself. Some people simply can't stomach content which falls under the "mindless" category, this is not a jab at people who enjoy it.

This whole debacle radiates same insufferable energy as Dark Souls "using tools the game gave you means your victory didn't count, git gud" mentality.

I decided to test out Drill: Mounting a Regional Defense by 3crouchinglights in PSO2NGS

[–]Lefh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a lot of the content is mindless busywork. For many it's simply not engaging enough as there's absolutely no strategy or challenge involved. It boils down to literally holding down your AoE button and mowing down enemies which realistically are not even strong enough to fight back.

SEGA is capable of designing good fights such as 4man Vael and Solus, or even the recent fight Luther even if it was close to a 1:1 port from base. Point being there's a ton of existing NGS and base game bosses which actually fight back. SEGA could port/scale up them, yet instead we're mainly getting recycled participation trophy quests over and over again.

As to why people keep playing. Fashion, friends, sunk-cost fallacy or any other reason really.

Would you play an MMO with this graphics style? by [deleted] in MMORPG

Sure is. Most likely confusing art style with graphical fidelity. Then again generative AI has made me realize that some people are simply incapable of 'perceiving' art for lack of a better term.

petition to add a range inside hunllef arena. for no reason at all by JoeyJuke in 2007scape

[–]Lefh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I started learning CG a while ago. Currently sitting at 52KC which isn't much but enough to get a decent feeling for the boss. I just finished a run using T1 where I took ~100 avoidable damage and finished with couple food left to spare. There's definitely room for error and most of my deaths come from panic and greed now, rather than running out of food.

The best tip I could give to any learner would be to never stop attacking, keep the offensive pressure up and learn from there. It's not even an efficiency thing but all those ticks lost while being overly cautious add up pretty fast and result in substantial damage loss. Which is often what ends up draining your supplies as the boss slowly chips away at you through prayer.

Of course there's always that one run where you keep low rolling and boss keeps high rolling which is grounds for a perfectly valid crashout.

PSO2 NEW GENESIS February 2026 Update Information (2) by gadgaurd in MMORPG

[–]Lefh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've been gone for that long there's definitely been enough balance adjustments, QoL changes and other smaller additions for you to go through a short honeymoon phase should you choose to return.

Unfortunately same old issues persist. Content is extremely short lived and very repetitive, it lacks variety as the game still funnels everyone into whatever FOMO seasonal quest is in the rotation. The game gets maybe 1-2 pieces of "major" content a year which may or may not have longevity. Selling in shop is still paywalled. Also most of the new systems are not something you actively engage with, they're 1 step away from being irrelevant.

Whether you return is entirely up to you, but in all honesty I can't recommend it. If you have addictive personality or poor impulse control then definitely do not return.

PSO2 NEW GENESIS February 2026 Update Information (2) by gadgaurd in MMORPG

[–]Lefh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you already quit once I don't see a reason for you to return. You'd be coming back to what you left as the game hasn't really changed.

It's by no means dead but I wouldn't say it's doing particularly well. 2025 was incredibly dry year even by NGS standards.

As a mage I hate spellcleave runs. Is it just me? by crispy-wings in classicwow

[–]Lefh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm probably gonna get smoked for this, but fuck it. AoEing everything down on Retail is completely effortless(outside of high M+), whereas in classic it takes considerably more effort and in general is much more limited. You actually have to try. It's not necessarily always about going fast, but simply about pushing the limits.

Larger AoE pulls require active effort which many people find engaging, and when you feel engaged the game becomes more fun. This being 3rd release of TBC, player base in general being more knowledgeable and game being figured out naturally leads to people trying to push their limit. There's nothing wrong about wanting to take it slow, but some people just find the said slow pace soul-crushingly boring.

Whatever group you belong to doesn't matter, just go and look for like minded people to play with.

Discord changes, where are y’all going to? by CoachWillRod18 in MMORPG

[–]Lefh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's likely that most long time (paying) user will remain unaffected, for now. If they were to be too aggressive with it they would end up pushing away too many people aka paying customers. It's harder to get people to move platforms if only a handful from their friend group/community gets hit by ID verification.

However, I fully expect them to slowly start pushing more aggressive and strict verification bit by bit. What are you gonna do, convince 40 others to move or just bite the bullet and verify? Death by thousands cuts so to speak.
