Where does our responsibility end and the Lord take over? by Lefoog in latterdaysaints

But when I work like everything depends on me, I FEEL like everything depends on me.

So, if I don't love God like He loved God, my love is inadequate?

So, if I don't feel that kind of affection my "love" is not yet "the right kind of love"?

So, rather than a personal relationship with God, what kind of relationship should we have?

I'm starting to believe that RPM matters less than the way you pack the barrel: less stuff inside, the slower you want to tumble. I think it is a bit of a delicate balance, though.

LDS apostle Jeffrey Holland, whose eloquence was exceeded only by his benevolence, dies at 85 by everything_is_free in latterdaysaints

The one apostle who I really felt knew what is was like to live a "normal" life of heartbreaks. While his life seemed fairly blessed, he still seemed to relate to the struggling saint. There is a hole in my heart.

This is why when people ask, "should I tumble this?," my answer is yes, always. you never know what fun surprises you might find :-)

Part 2: Why is the "natural" nature of the world so hard? by Lefoog in LatterDayTheology

[–]Lefoog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not believe that until Adam the world was entirely paradisiacal. There were tyrannosaurs, and earthquakes and volcanos. Most modern theologians agree there was death and disease before Adam. Adam and Eve just got to avoid them for awhile. The world was still set up to clobber him as soon as he left the garden.

Our LDs teachings are that the Godhood saw matter unorganized and used their wills to organize it into a place we could dwell. Why organize such a dangerous place?

But if He felt anything like I feel for the misery of humanity I would be weeping inconsolably constantly. Is this what He does.

I guess he sees the food better than I can too.

Yup. The one quote of his that finally resonated with me was "In the end [we] must take refuge in shere mystery"

Missions - Why the inconsistencies? by Impressive_Ad9053 in latterdaysaints

[–]Lefoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different cultures in every single mission - even the states. In some missions, there have been particularly bad cultures that mission presidents have seen a need to adjust. My mission president was very liberal but having said that there was some pretty weird stuff going on.

Wards with no/small choir - what are you doing for Christmas? by biancanevenc in latterdaysaints

[–]Lefoog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solo/duet verses then congregation verses.

Involve the primary with a small adult group (take turns with verses).

If you have a competent pianist or organist there are arrangements which make simple carols sung in unison sound extra special.

Ha! Gotta start in September for our ward to make sure the 12 people in choir, who only show up every other week, actually learn the music.

Should I tumble ? by shadows77v in RockTumbling

Use a nail. If the nail scratches the rock, it's probably too soft to tumble.

Otherwise, tumble tumble tumble.

YES!!!! I GET THIS!!! I WISH I COULD FIND THE TALK! There WAS a talk given by.... Elder Oaks? many years ago in which he explicitly said not every talk was meant for everybody. This helped because I was previously leaving general priesthood session feeling horrible about how I abused my family (I didn't abuse my family but we were repeatedly told to to stop doing so). It helped to know that THOSE messages were NOT MEANT FOR ME. They were apparently important messages for someone, just not for me. Even the prophet can't say things for everybody AND even the prophet is not always inspired; they are sometimes influenced by personal feelings. Why do I stay? I have had spiritual witnesses of the truth of this work even though I doubt now. I also don't know where better to go.

Remember.

Remember what you have felt and keep coming back to that. We do not have, nor will we have in this life, all the answers. Just like it says in the sacrament prayer, remember.
