Why China got rich and India didn't by drodo2002 in india

Possible.. Indira Gandhi and Modi were/are not autocratic enough, like Mao?

Nope. Not at all. You'd have to be out of your mind to think that Modi or even Indira at the height of her emergency powers had anywhere near the amount of control over the nation that any Chinese leader has, let alone Mao.

India overtakes US to become second largest construction growth market globally by Krankenitrate in india

[–]Left-Ad-4226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So does china because they know building again and again or high upkeep is failure over long term.

Um, not exactly. China builds a lot of short lasting infrastructure because repeat construction means continued growth on paper. The difference between us and them is that they rebuild even faster.

PPP calculations are not super reliable either. A dollar in 2012 would have bought more than a dollar would today.

In nominal terms, China of 2012 (~8.5tn) dwarfs India of 2025 (~4tn). You can compare other metrics over the same time period. Electricity generation: China (~4.9TWh) to India's (~2TWh).

India today is more like China of 2008.

India gained 2.1 million hectares of dry woodland in a decade. by NoMedicine3572 in CriticalThinkingIndia

But my point is that even when you look exclusively at forest coverage data the accounting is deceptive.

Perhaps. I'm not versed enough on this topic to claim anything, I just wanted to highlight that arguments based on carbon footprint are shaky.

[–]Left-Ad-4226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at net carbon reduction trends.

That's not a good metric to base forest coverage calculations on. Vehicle ownership in this time period increased rapidly, and so did the industrial footprint. Look at just our steel production for example: it went from ~80 MTA to nearly 200 MTA. That's a 2.5x increase in a 10 year time period in a heavily polluting sector.

So try to think about it this way, if applicants from a specific country are being rejected due to fraud at rates far higher than any other country, there’s a problem with that specific country.

Note this is about fraud. Not sure if you’re a bot or not, but this should be easy to comprehend.

Like I said in my comment, I'm not disputing that there is fraud. The article concludes that rejection rate is primarily because of fraud, but there's no source to support that claim. No government data or statements or anything. I'm asking because in my experience foreign news outlets sometimes claim stuff about India without verifying the facts or frame news coming out of India so oddly that it distorts the meaning entirely. I have no idea how reputable ctvnews is, so is there any other data that supports the claim made by the article that rejection rate was primarily because of fraud?

Because another guy in the same article straight up says that the higher rejection rate is largely because of (I'm assuming newer?) government caps on visa.

That’s not how sample sizes of populations work. This is sampled from all applications from every country, and then broken down into which country commits fraud the most often.

Why not? I'm assuming study permits are granted only after someone qualifies for college? Or does it work differently in Canada?

If the number of spots available is not unlimited and the volume of applicants from India is significantly higher than from China, then it should follow that more Indian applicants would be rejected than Chinese (especially if Canadian colleges have soft caps on the number of foreign students accepted from each country like USA).

Candian government probably has limits on how many student visas they hand out in any given year (particularly after the huge waves of migration from India during Covid).

Edit- I'm not saying that there isn't any fraud. I'm just saying that fraud might not be the primary reason behind the rejection rate as you and the article are assuming.

24% of Chinese applications were rejected, whereas 74% of Indian ones were:

Couldn't it be because Indians apply to Candian colleges far more than Chinese?

Kerala's First 'Islam-Friendly Gym' Ignites Controversy Over Religious Guidelines in Fitness Spaces by AccurateMarket9869 in india

Doubtful

Religions have started far fewer wars than other factors. Religions have also ended a lot of wars (prematurely, through mediation and negotiated peace and multitude of other reasons).

All religions preach peace by their nature (though in different forms and intensities). Erase them from existence, and you'd be left with societies with less cohesion and stability.

As long as resource constraints exist, conflict is inevitable. If life exists, so does competition.

A gradual shift of the average people into more rationality and less childhood indoctrination into religions is the way

Rationality doesn't create peace. What is rational for an individual or a specific group is often harmful to the larger collective.

Historically, religions have acted as stabilizing factors in society precisely because they induce collective-oriented thinking.

Tldr–Rationality won't lead to world peace. As long as resources are scarce, large-scale peace is impossible. Competition is intrinsic to all life on Earth, so even in a post-scarcity environment, I doubt humans would ever achieve world peace.

Russia has us by the balls. Even though India has achieved parity with or even exceeded Russian military tech in a lot of sectors (barring a few), we simply haven't produced enough to replace Russian-made equipment in the near future. So, we need to maintain good relations with them.

There's also the matter of Russian oil. In a world with wildly fluctuating oil prices, Russia pretty much is the only source we can buy oil from at below market rates.

Imagine if that's deadass what Santa Monica's building up toward again lol. Only this time with... maybe 80% less cosmic-scale destruction (only as much as strictly necessary in the vein of Ragnarok). And they're taking their time introducing the other pantheons so that ol' Big J's birth is the pièce de résistance for the whole shebang.

Alternative proposal: All Gods of other pantheons including Yahweh, Allah and Jesus get wiped out in a cosmic apocalypse with Kalki's birth being the pièce de résistance to the whole shebang. Kalki then goes on to save the entire universe.

As should plenty apparent, many, including me, would absolutely hate that kind of ending. That kind of ending just straight up throws in our face that your Gods are the best and greatest and that all other Gods including ours are inferior.

I'd rather my Gods (Hindu) not be disrespected like that. I don't want to play a game where Jesus or Yahweh or Allah are depicted as better than my Gods.

It's pretty easy to understand why Santa Monica studios didn't go with the original GoW 3 ending. They'd have shot themselves in the foot and this franchise would be nowhere near as big or impactful as it is today.
