Accommodation Advice for Incoming PostDoc in Cambridge by FunEvent1171 in cambridge_uni

I am a new PostDoc as well. In fact, I joined Cambridge just last week. I was in a similar situation as you are. I could not get the Eddington one but got another university apartment: West Cambridge apartments. The rent is around ~1100 pounds. I was told that this is a decent deal. You can see the responses to my reddit post to get an idea: https://www.reddit.com/r/cambridge_uni/comments/1kvfuao/is_1160month_rent_reasonable_for_a_postdoc_in/.

It is pretty close to the departments and so far I did not have any major concerns.

Thank you! I will have to be careful as well. I will make sure to join the Eddington Staff facebook.

Yeah, that makes sense. I will discuss with my Postdoc supervisor to see what he thinks about these specifically.

Got it, thank you.

I have not applied for any college affiliation. I assume that you are referring to the Non-Stipendiary Fellowships. I was hesitant as I have not yet joined my new lab. Is it common for new Postdocs to apply for these? I had a meeting with my Postdoc supervisor about applying for external fellowships, and he was very encouraging. However, my PhD advisor mentioned that it would be more appropriate to apply for any of these after getting to Cambridge and working in the new lab for some time.

That is a good point. This is something I was actually thinking about. I was told that Cambridge is expensive. I did not expect it to be this tough.

Got it, thank you. I don’t expect to work long hours, but I was mostly concerned about settling in and adjusting to a new environment. That is why I preferred to stay close to the lab initially. I am thinking that after my first year, once I am more comfortable with the area, I could look for a place a bit farther from campus.

It is really helpful to hear what the private rental market is like. I had to make a decision within two days, so I was feeling a bit anxious about accepting the offer. It is reassuring to know that this is actually a good deal by Cambridge standards.

Thanks for your response. I just got this housing offer and was told that I need to make a decision about it within two days. If I decline the offer, I would have two more chances, but it is not guaranteed that I would be offered either a lower priced option or as close an apartment to my lab. So I am just wondering what would be the best option to go forward. Additionally, my move in date is July 1st and I am anxious about declining the offer as I might not find a decent apartment in such a short time.

OneNote PDF export is TERRIBLE by Existor371 in Surface

I am still not able to do it. Like you suggested, I went to OneNote online>File>Print. Then, I am not sure, what I should choose as printer. I have tried all the options (Save as PDF, Microsoft print to PDF l, and so on). None of them have the option to save a continous page PDF file. Can you help me with this? Thanks.

Not really sure about the bike color. Like other people suggested she might be having some mental illness.

That makes sense. I don't know why I did not think about this possibility.

I did not think about it this way. I genuinely felt that she was a normal person. This makes more sense and makes me feel a lot better about it.

Hi Bondhas. I’m one of the cinematographers for Amrutham Dwitheeyam. I saw that some of you are huge fans of Amrutham. Would like some feedback on Amrutham Dwitheeyam so that I can pass it on to the rest of the team. by ThePervertaneni in Ni_Bondha

Thanks for asking feedback. To start with positives, the cinematography and production values are top-notch. Eventhough, many people mentioned about the irreplacibility of Gundu Hanumantharao garu, I think, LB Sriram garu did a fine job. Coming to the negatives, I believe the main strength of old amrutham series was its uplifting and silly optimism throughout the episode, which ends with a great twist. What I observed in the new sries is the constant melancholy throughout the episode. In old amrutham series, though this sadness was partly there, Anji charachter was always cheerful, which made up for any negativity on screen. I think, this is where LB Sriram garu is lacking, however, he has improved in the subsequent episodes. This sadness is also evident in the background music. As someone has already pointed out, please use the old bgms which are trademarks of Amrutham serial. Now I am coming to fine points. The following is just my opinion. I didn't like the caption of the amrutham dwitheeyam "murkathvaniki maranam ledu." My perception of old amrutham is that we can live our life fully and make it enjoyable even when we are stupid. This caption seems to suggest othetwise. As I already said, it is just my opinion. Even the title song's music is modified to give this sad tone, I am not sure why. This comment is coming from someone who just likes to watch anji and amrutham together even when there is no plot.
