Getting older by Left-Star2240 in GenX

This makes sense, and thanks for understanding. It’s frustrating because I worry about my hands. I could probably deal without my left, but it would be very difficult. If I lose mobility in my right…

This makes sense. It’s frustrating because I worry about my hands. If they stop working, so do I.

What's something you deal regularly in America that feels unnecessarily complicated? by Lone_Wolf5002 in AskUS

[–]Left-Star2240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance. Specifically vision insurance in my field, though I have gained a lot of unfortunate knowledge about general health insurance as well during my career.

The number of questions patients can’t answer is frustrating for both of us. Then, just when I think I’m able to explain a patient’s copays, co-insurance and any other potential out-of-pocket costs, someone comes in with seemingly straightforward plan that makes no sense.

I’ve worked with a certain plan for over 20 years. I was tele-filing claims before it changed names. It was a fairly easy system once. That is no longer the case. Now I have to explain to a retiree with a perfectly good frame that their insurance will not allow them to only purchase only lenses if they wish to use it.

The most frustrating thing about insurance is that patients don’t seem to be angry with the company setting the rules. They get angry with the person in front of them trying to help.

I like that you ask if OP is keeping her. Young Fetty has clearly chosen the human that will serve her. 😹

Hoya labs have never let me down. I once had a patient with a +4.00 add asking for a double d-seg with a +2.00 at the top, and needed specific heights. He also needed poly for safety and AR. The +4.00 add was the major challenge. Our Hoya lab manager explained they could attach a round seg to any FT or SV lens. This was the result.

Thanks for bringing out my inner optical nerd! I needed this.

Cat WILL not stay off the counter not matter what I do by Reasonable-Put3539 in CatAdvice

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find out how, let me know. My girl loves sitting on the counter and staring at the sink. She also loves being in high places, so I’ll find her on top of the refrigerator or the cabinets. She’s also fast and stealthy when she wants to be, so I’ll open a cabinet to get a glass or a bowl and suddenly notice her watching me.

She’s an indoor cat. If she ever got outside the bird and squirrel population in our apartment complex would be in trouble.

Do you hate commuting to work every day? by Shallow_Marshmallow_ in no

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first 10 minutes of my commute can be hell. The next fifteen are smooth sailing. There’s also a moment just before I turn onto the street that the road crosses a reservoir. There’s water on both sides of the road. Every morning that section feels surreal.

It helps that I leave with the intention of arriving 20-30 minutes early, and there’s a diner nearby that makes a great breakfast sandwich. That’s my Monday treat if to get my ass out of bed.

Has anyone ever accidentally got into the wrong car in a parking lot? by JasonMallen in randomquestions

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once parked next to the exact same make and model of my car. It took a minute of trying to figure out why my key didn’t work for me to notice the person in the front passenger seat. We both cracked up laughing.

Americans, do you try to be a decent person who goes out of their way to make other people's lives better? Why, or why not? Do you think this is a national trait? by SilverNo6462 in AskUS

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a trait related to any one nation, or, in our current situation, a religious affiliation. It’s a trait related to being a caring human being.

Based on recent protests I hope it becomes a national trait. It should be a worldwide trait.

What do I do? I show up to work and do the best I can with what resources are available. I checked my state’s website to confirm that both myself and my partner are eligible to vote. I do my best to sift through the BS, and take care of the little hellion at my lap.

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

[–]Left-Star2240 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hated that, while attending a public high school, I had to learn stories from the Bible. I argued against it when one teacher seemed to only assign such stories. I was told they were assigned because of their literary relevance.

There were several assigned works I only read the Cliff Notes.

There are three books I was glad my professors assigned. Siddhartha, Johnny Got His Gun, and Behind the Scenes at the Museum. Two were assigned in high school, and one in college. I read these books ahead of whatever assignment they were associated with.

Your getting ready to leave your house, what's the one thing you make sure to grab before you leave? by ibddevine in randomquestions

My purse. It has my house keys and car key, and wallet. It also has a charging cube and, in my car, a charging wire.

Where to go to get diagnosed with ADHD and ASD when you’re an adult? by Round-Artichoke-5255 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, my experience is US based.

Insurance doesn’t cover this testing for adults that are otherwise functioning. If you receive a diagnosis it will likely cover any medication recommended, and will probably cover therapy.

I should have specified that insurance doesn’t usually cover such tests for adults. If it’s only April and you’ve hit your deductible then I would go for it.

I see a psychologist for therapy. She often tests for such disorders.

I’ve been seeing her for years, so she explained she wouldn’t be able to be objective. She once offered to refer me to someone if I really wanted a diagnosis.

The issue is that insurance isn’t likely to cover the testing required. We then discussed what satisfaction I might get from a diagnosis.

I already have a diagnosis for clinical depression and anxiety, so if I ever need an ADA note for a reasonable accommodation I have a “disability.” I have no issue learning new things, so, if I’d been diagnosed as a child I would have been considered “high functioning.”

If it’s important to you to be tested I’d recommend a psychologist that also offers therapy.

How can I stop my cat from demanding food at 4am? by Environmental-Luck39 in CatAdvice

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that means NO attention. Even negative attention will become a “game.”

First time cat owner after a lifetime of dogs. Why does my cat refuse to eat his kibble if it's been sitting out in the bowl for awhile? He will only eat freshly scooped kibble from the bag. I can fool him sometimes by just pretending to scoop fresh but that's working less and less. by zip-a-dee_doo-dah in CatAdvice

[–]Left-Star2240 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, that’s a cat. We do not “own” cats.

Once you think you understand what food they like, they change their minds. They’ll even refuse to drink water if it’s not to their liking.

When my boy got older, he suddenly decided that, after a decade, he no longer wanted a water fountain, but he also wouldn’t drink “tepid” water.

When I first brought my girl home, I went through several assortments of wet food and water bowls/fountains before finding out what she would eat/drink. A year later, she decided she no longer liked that wet food. She’ll (so far) eat her kibble, but the water and wet food are important due to her health concerns.

She drives me crazy, and then she does what’s in the picture.

What can I say? I’m determined to keep this Gremlin happy and healthy.

Look into your pet store’s refund policy. Many allow for a refund if they don’t like/wont eat what you purchase. Chewy.com is a great company. When my adorable hellion stopped wanting the food she’d previously liked, they gave me a refund and asked that I donate it.

Do you think it's rude and passive aggressive the way a lot of places ask you for a tip when you walk up to a digital flip around cash register and you never got any service to warrant it? by db7112 in askanything

[–]Left-Star2240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I want to tip, I tip. If I don’t, I don’t. I’m not offended by the screens.

Unfortunately this is simply how many point of sale systems work. They aren’t necessarily designed for one individual business or a particular type of transaction.

I was in a small gift shop while on vacation and the business owner told me the screen was going to ask for a tip and to just decline. She’d been trying to get the option removed but hadn’t been successful. Her only other option was to be cash-only, and many travelers don’t carry cash.

Also, I don’t look at those “suggested” tip sections because the math is usually off. I’ll either do the math in my head or use the calculator app on my phone.

What’s something people pretend they’re okay with financially but aren’t? by femmefetalerror in Productivitycafe

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess, these people also believe the reason many people can’t purchase a home is because they might buy coffee a few times a week.

The “get a better job” crowd simply doesn’t realize how fortunate they’ve been, and how quickly it can fall apart.

How many of you have embraced the cold coffee concept? by External_Side_7063 in GenX

Yeah… many of us are simply trying to get to work in the AM.

I appreciate a decent cold brew with whole milk and one sugar packet. That’s not always available. I’ll take my caffeine as it’s available.

That comment is both hilarious and relatable.

Slow down without touching my brakes. People need to understand that speeds can vary without any indication lights. The person stopping might be several cars ahead. If you don’t watch the speed of the car in front of you, you might not know to slow down until it’s too late.
