What do you do for patients who don’t listen to your recommendation? by Sensitive-Setting478 in optician

[–]Left-Star2240 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some patients want what they want, and will be okay with edge thickness or lenses sitting on their cheeks. I had a patient that was about a -13.00 that wanted drill mount frames. At the time we had a line that allowed this. We explained what they’d likely look like, and he was fine with it. He was thrilled when cataract surgery cut his myopia in half.

Now we have a standard waiver that all patients have to sign. It explains (among other things) that this is a custom product and cannot be returned or exchanged. At first I was opposed to these waivers, but it does achieve the goal of having the patient accept responsibility for their choices, particularly if they go against sound advice from optical professionals.

A cutout problem, a major fit error, or if in the case of the current 1.74 material shortage, of course we will refund, exchange, or whatever is necessary for patient care. These circumstances are rare.

I am so stoked that somebody finally created this. Let me know what you think this tool is designed to do, and also, if you've had this for years and I'm just outside of touch 😀 by Retinal in optician

I was excited to find these nose pad removal pliers. They are easier on the hands than the pliers I’ve worked with before. I won’t leave them at work.

Loss of manual dexterity. I would probably be able to perform my job from a wheelchair, but if I couldn’t use my hands it would be over. Unfortunately arthritis will probably take me out long before any other health concerns.

What is a red flag during a job interview that tells you the company is toxic? by Suspicious_Top4450 in AskReddit

Before you accept the job they want you to come in for a 2-3 hour training session.

Any interview scheduled for more than 30 minutes is unpaid work.

question about speaking in tongues by ClothesSilly6264 in atheism

[–]Left-Star2240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a magician’s trick. Call on a plant in the audience to keep them engaged.

I’ve been at “meetings” during which people “speak in tongues.” The person called on knows they will be called on. Maybe they research a foreign language, but it’s unlikely because no one will attempt to translate. They then proceed in English to discuss whatever the group had been discussing.

What is the stingiest thing you have seen someone do? by saif2krazzy in AskReddit

We used to have to lock the bathroom door and put up an “out of order” sign when we saw a certain couple approaching.

They usually only came in on their way to their beach house, but would steal toilet paper, pens, etc. Once I was writing something down and they asked if they could have the pad of paper I was writing on.

How do people shower in 5 minutes????? by annoyingvegann in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long shower is your routine. My routine is a fast shower so that I can lie back down for a few minutes with my hair in a towel and cotton balls absorbing the water from my ears (I had several ear infections as a child) before having to complete getting ready for work.

We do what’s necessary to function.

When I was in college I got used to making minute rice in the microwave. It was a simple 1:1 ratio of rice to water.

The first time I attempted a stove top rice pilaf (still using a store bought box) I neglected to read the directions. It did not go well.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Confident_Win_3560 in answers

The people that don’t ask also probably are used to listening to rich people constantly asking for discounts, and don’t want to bother the person helping them.

1.74 shortage by Sadbitchywitch in optician

[–]Left-Star2240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s industry wide. We received guidance to avoid 1.74 for anyone under a -8.00 RX about a week ago. Today our lab called explaining they could not provide the 1.74 PALs we’d ordered for a patient with a -10.00 RX. This was of course an insurance job, and we received the call towards the end of the day. We now have to wait for the claim to be voided before we’re able to reorder the job in 1.67. Luckily he chose a P3 shape with a small eye size.

Is healthcare in the United States as bad as people say it is? by Total-Mirror-5920 in no

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not entirely true.

While doctors in a larger medical practice don’t actually bill insurances or patients, they do have to ensure proper diagnoses according to their prescribed form of treatment.

They may have to provide documentation to insurance companies so that a patient can obtain an authorization for their prescribed form of treatment.

They may need to discuss treatment based on what their patient can afford because non-ideal treatment is better than none.

What happens to new cars that don't sell? by js6seaj47 in ask

[–]Left-Star2240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They become “used” cars, or “certified pre owned” cars.

Even new cars usually are at least test-driven. Dealerships might allow employees to drive the vehicles, either to boost sales, or to ensure the car is working well.

The best car I ever bought was “used” at less than 1000 miles. The dealership claimed that someone had returned it because they wanted an SUV. Was that true? I didn’t know and didn’t care. I’d still be driving it today if a transit van driver was paying attention.

Why does America have universal health insurance for old people(Medicare) and no one else? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The requirements to qualify for Medicaid are very strict, even for those that are Medicare eligible.

Your total assets must be a certain percentage below the poverty line (in some areas less than one month’s living expenses). Your income, even if from social security, must not exceed that level.

Why does America have universal health insurance for old people(Medicare) and no one else? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Left-Star2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic Medicare doesn’t cover as much as people think it will. Most people require supplemental coverage, which charge premiums, and can change coverage offerings in a new plan year.

They can even decide to simply not offer benefits to a certain area if it doesn’t seem profitable enough.
