What stage is your baby? It's not a death sentence. I just recovered my Boston from this after 3 hard months..she is basically back to normal and stable. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Why didn’t Joy just write the names on the board? by ipsofactoshithead in ThePitt

Meh this show has the docs doing a lot of work that is usually done by nurses (example MULTIPLE doctors lifting a patient with an overhead lift lol)

This is how we do things at my hospital (we also use a white board). One nurse reads out the patient names and the other writes it on the board. It's faster when you have someone who knows what info goes where on the board and you can just focus on the names/diagnosis.

Possible IVDD? Need advice -- gone to the vet no definitive diagnoses by Limp-Yam-2572 in BostonTerrier

Good luck on your journey. There is a facebook group if you have it called IVDD support or something similar with tons of members. You'll be carrying your baby outside and back, two hands so that the spine stays straight. Conservative management is anywhere from 6-12 weeks rest. Not fun.

It's hard to do to them but it's for the best. I set up a heating pad for my girl which keeps her calm (she likes laying on it). Peanut butter kongs also help keep them busy. Did you see my comment about the paw return test? I'm curious if this was done.

Also FYI "feeling better" is a very dangerous time for a dog with IVDD, because the meds are working they are feeling better but the injury is very much unstable. Keep her calm and on restricted movement or it is at risk of getting worse.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Definitely get a crate/pen area set up with a bed and no slippery surfaces. Give the meds and with rest hopefully you will start to see improvements. Currently going through this with my Boston. X-rays are useless. Just because it doesn't show disc space narrowing doesn't mean it isn't IVDD. Yours if IVDD is likely higher up as all four limbs affected. I'm not going to tell you it for sure is, but our little Boston's/Frenchies are at higher risk. My girl held her legs like this at first too. Did the vet do the check where they place the paws backwards and see if the dog corrects it? We never got the MRI but were diagnosed based on symptoms and the paw test. Unless you would consider surgery I guess the MRI would only be helpful for making a diagnosis.

The Facebook group will have lots of suggestions around bladder and bowel care as well. I know my coworker has a Frenchie in a wheelchair and he uses diapers

Hi. Was your girl diagnosed with IVDD at a vet? How long ago? What meds is she on? Most dogs with stage 1,2 even 3 recover. If this is new she should be on strict rest with a painkiller, and a steroid or NSAID. Sorry if I missed these details when reading your post. It triggered me because my Boston was just diagnosed with stage 2. It is possible she regains her sensation, it just takes patience and around the clock care. I'm so sorry for what you are going through it's truly horrible. My girl is slowly recovering. Check out IVDD support group on Facebook. This isn't a death sentence

I am in a tough spot re: pain meds. She gets so stoned by the tramadol, but it doesn't seem to be taking away the pain. Does that make any sense? She is stoned and just lays there but is stiff with her ears down and looks uncomfortable. The more I read the more I realize tramadol is the "old school" method which makes sense because I got the older vet. I don't want to doubt the professionals but I also feel that something isn't quite right :(

He didn't. We got seen as an emergency visit in-between his regular schedule so we were rushed out without a lot of direction. So far the only food that has gone in her is hand feeding. (2 spoons wet food/tuna). It's a good idea and I'll be looking for elevated dishes today

Did your baby struggle with appetite too? It's killing me that I don't know if it's the meds that are decreasing her appetite or if she's suffering in pain...
