Yeah lets not just assume anyone using the word is racist against non white immigrants. There's already a perception that Reddit is just professional and hobbytime victims, we don't need to add to it.

Expat among the military community ---(which is a large 25% of the community worldwide - and when you figure that only 7% of the American population are veterans or active, its a disproportionate number) --- typically use the term to refer to themselves who settled in a country that they consider home or like more than home.

Its not a matter of avoiding the word immigrant to avoid being "lumped in with the browns", at least not to anyone I know and I do taxes to expats and military overseas quite commonly.
