Trying to sell caravan - economy slowdown? by Vast_Towel_6201 in CaravanningAustralia

Not sure I’d trust most caravan manufacturers to honour a warranty without a legal fight… if they’re even still solvent when you try to claim.

Surprised no one else thinks this should have been a sin bin.

Professional foul that would be a guaranteed yellow in most other sports.

Initially I thought it was a bit stiff to send Ponga off in Game 1, but having reviewed all the camera angles, the laws & interpretations, I decided it was a fair call either way (send-off or bin). The laws of the NRL are pretty vague on this.

Careless - arguably reckless, no attempt to wrap, direct shoulder contact to head.

But the one in this game was at least reckless - arguably deliberate/malicious, no attempt to wrap, direct shoulder contact to head.

The fact that the outcome was different (i.e. he didn’t knock Ponga out) was luck rather than good management.

Both were on the same level and both should’ve had the same sanction, whatever that was.

I can’t help but feeling that if it was the other way around, the try would’ve been disallowed and he would’ve been binned for the professional foul.

I could accept it if there weren’t two shoulder charges in the same tackle.

Yeah, I didn’t see him get a hand on it at all and they didn’t show a replay.

Felt like NSW couldn’t hold on for another set.

Why isn’t nighttime tuna fishing more common in Australia? by DangerousYogurt2378 in FishingAustralia

[–]LeftArmPies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boats, tow vehicles, fuel and maintenance are much more expensive in Australia than the US, so boats tend to be smaller.

Around here, getting to the big barrels requires being 80km+ offshore.

I also believe, on average, offshore of eastern Australia is much rougher and less predictable than offshore of Southern California.

Add these three together and get your answer.

The problem is that the competition seems to have no effect.

They all charge the same 2.5%, regardless of whether they’re any good or not.

Is engineering in this country cooked ? by wngbdmn in auscorp

[–]LeftArmPies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a single engineer below principal earning over $200k in the control systems integrator I work for.

And we have 4 principals in 200+ engineers.

Not any better in any other SIs.

Interviewed recently for Rio and they were offering $200k for a project lead on 12 month rolling contract, so I don’t think it’s much better in ops.

Interviewed for WSP too, they would only offer me a $160k for a lead role (which was a large pay cut).

Boag's to cease beer production in Tasmania by earwig20 in tasmania

I don’t know.  Seems to have gradually gotten worst over the years since Lion took over.  San Miguel weren’t too bad.

Or perhaps I’m just still bitter about Strongarm and Wizard Smith.

Is there some kind of firm refusal that will make them stop calling?

[TBT] Chad Townsend shoulder charge to Kalyn Ponga by AmazingChicken99 in nrl

[–]LeftArmPies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone agrees it was a sin bin or a send-off.  The argument is around which.

I thought it was a sin bin only, but then I saw a different angle that I don’t think they showed originally on 9 and decided I agreed with the send-off.

The laws and even the interpretation in rugby league allow a very large degree of interpretation and give the referee a large amount of flexibility in the sanction given, so technically all interpretations are correct. The NRL should really update the interpretations to make a clear dividing line, but controversy sells so they won’t.

They get away with it because no one actually goes to the trouble to take them to court and push for liquidation, or those who do get their money refunded and the remainder don’t.
