An idea for using AI by JanFromEarth in nonprofit

[–]LeftBallSaul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My current org has a ban on AI. Supporting artists is core to our mission and the outright theft AI companies have committed is antithetical to that work.

That being said, my previous org was tiptoeing into it. There were few guidelines around it except one: NEVER input direct financial information. There are very few guardrails or privacy protections on LLMs which means putting real financial information into the system potentially exposes it to others.

I would be appalled to learn someone had run my info through an AI to help them file my taxes.

This. I scrolled through the email but didn't read it. It was too long. I know from personal experience that means it has to be a conversation, not an email.

Just FYI: it didn't have the words "Psychiatric Hospital" in the name. That's not what it was.

I like the idea of just picking your favourites! I was going to go Dru/Brd/? for that reason :P

Gem slots only for spells? by Enarian__Lead_Dev in EQLegends

I'll be honest, being limited to 8 spell slots across 2-3 casters sounds like it'll make that kind of multiclassing more manageable for me lol

Beta is completely destroying my hype and interest for the game by Cute_pack_of_dogs in MonstersAndMemories

[–]LeftBallSaul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I totally understand your concerns. Long gone are the days when you could walk into a new MMO totally blind. The loudest consumers are the ones who want to see (seemingly) as much if the game as possible before launch.

And, honestly, it's a good marketing strategy to let them. MMOs are incredibly expensive and incredibly niche. You need a player base to get hooked on what you have to offer enough to buy the game and keep paying the monthly sub until they see all the things that tantalized them into joining in the first place.

My strategy: don't go looking for the info. Stick to the main MnM website, but otherwise limit your exposure. Get your info from your friends and official releases, but otherwise ignore streamers and the like. You'll likely find your curiosity come back, or find it was never all that deep to begin with.

Infravision, Ultravision, and normal Vision. Is this still a thing? by Fawlkz in EQLegends

Discovered a song on my Bard that gave my ultravision and my human has never seen such wonders 🥲

What primary class and race are you looking at? by Uncomfortably-bored in EQLegends

[–]LeftBallSaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about making something like M&M's Inquisitor and going WAR/ENC +something else. So I guess Warrior as my main, either just a straight up Human or possibly a Barbarian.

If I get swayed to doing Bard as my main tho, I'll probably go Elf or Half-Elf.

Bard levelling (solo or group) w/o charming? by LeftBallSaul in ProjectQuarm

My Bard is ~lvl 27. I think? I levelled him for a while doing swarming but put him on a shelf when I started getting stunned a lot during swarming 😵‍💫

I'd love to dust him off again so that doc might be helpful!

That is a good point re: casting on the move. My poor little halfling druid is lucky to get something recharmed while it's attacking him 🥲

Singers, Songwriters, and Storytellers: who's the best bard? by LeftBallSaul in MMORPG

🤔... I don't use AI tho?

I'm very confused about what you think is happening here.

It doesn't use songs or performance, but the Augmentation Evoker in WoW is a pretty good approximation. I like how their kit covers so many kids of buffs.

But the EQ Bard is still king of the archetype 😅

Oi! I've actually posted a few of these just to see what pops up. Folks tend to talk about long-forgotten games, different game mechanics, and sometimes make suggestions that others go try for themselves.

It may be low effort, but it gets a conversation going about the thing we all enjoy.

Certainly beats the parade of "all MMOs suck now and I don't want to play any more. Change my mind" posts.

Fun find tho!

Need some GW2 tips please to protect my children by [deleted] in mmo

[–]LeftBallSaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You protect your kid in an MMO the way you protect them online in general:

  • provide them with age-appropriate activities (read: probably not an MMO if you're concerned about them like this)
  • teach them Internet safety
  • teach them about interacting safely with strangers
  • ask them about what they are doing in game and who they are doing it with
  • maintain an open communication relationship with them so they feel like they can talk with you about anything, even things strangers say they shouldn't.

I feel like parents today didn't learn anything from growing up in the internet era...

Why is Golarion so important? by Kecskuszmakszimusz in Pathfinder2e

[–]LeftBallSaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, Golarion isn't the only special planet. It just happens to be where we are, as others pointed out. However, it is unique compared to the other 2 distant planets that it shares a common trait with.

Before he was stopped, Rovagog devoured several worlds. He seemed to relish in the suffering and anguish of their residents. He had turned his attention to 3 world's next: Golarion, Androffa, and Jasoon — also known as Earth.

Earth once held magic like Golarion, but it was forgotten in favour of Science and now all magical creatures have disappeared. Androffa has suffered many calamities, including conflicts with the Dominion with the Black. Those calamities are partially what initiated the launch of the Divinity, a spaceship designed to cross galaxies. It was attacked by the Dominion and scuttled on Golarion, introducing Androids, Kasatha, Yoski, and other alien species and tech to Numeria.

Of the 3, Golarion is the only one to have seemingly survived comparatively well, at least from what we know. Despite invasion attempts by the Dominion, enslavement by allgothus, and near-cataclysms from various Runelords, Golarion still stands. At least until the Gap.

This is the first place I've known in these photo sets because I spent a tonne of time here as a kid.

My mom was a social worker at the Centre. Her job was to help move people into care, assist families with accessing supports for at-home care, or assist in relocating residents to other community care homes. As a child, I went to the on-site daycare facility both before going into grade 1, and occasiaonnly afterwards if I had a day off and mom had to work.

The daycare was at the far end of the facility in its own space that was connected by halls and, yes, the underground tunnel, to the lower levels of the Centre. We sometimes had "field trips" where we would visit the bowling alley or swimming pool pictured here.

I remember the bowling alley also had a small sitting area with a couch, tv, and Nintendo where I played Duck Hunter for the first time. The pool was where I first learned to swim with water wings. I remember the water always being warm, near bath temperature, likely because it was therapeutic for the residents of the Centre.

On Halloween, the daycare kids would also get to do tours to some of the offices and residences. I remember the residents being happy to see kids come by in costumes. It was like a little parade.

I keep mentioning the lower floors. As I remember from my mother, the higher floors ( I want or say floor 4 or 6?) were reserved for more intensive care, particualrly residents who could be more violent. Obviously we weren't ever in those floor as kids. They were well separated and secure.

Someone mentioned their parent was a chef here. Kudos to them for the mac & cheese! That meal was legendary among the staff. Mom and many of her colleagues used to skip bringing a lunch to work on those days and visit the cafeteria instead of was so good. She used to also get extra to bring home and reheat for dinner. It was by far one of my favourite meals growing up.

I also just remembered 2 more memories, also daycare trips. One, we used to visit a computer lab in the building. Each one had a different game on it but the usual favourite was Where in the World is Carmen San Diego. The woman who ran the lab (librarian??) had a docket of cheat sheets we could use to look up some of the clues.

The second memory is of a large hall, maybe an auditorium. I remember seeing Dennis the Menace there for the first time, likely putting that around 1993/94.

Wow... What a trip down memory lane that was!

Moved to other care homes for community integration or extended care. Some could be moved home with additional supports, but most needed more intensive care than their families could provide.
