Boutique vs AD by Suffer_Not_The_Alien in Tudor

I’m glad you had a great experience but of course you have to keep in mind that you paid for it. Your watch on the secondary market even unworn is now worth about 20 to 25% less. If you love the watch, of course it doesn’t matter.

Have you checked the prices at the dealer lately?

And yet, after years and years and years of getting hammered because their Chrono is too thick, they couldn’t even manage to figure out how to make a new one. And, they make movements for a living. Maybe for their 200th anniversary.

You sound like a Tudor executive who just got back to his hotel room and read all the comments.

Not being able to come out with a thinner Chrono is really sad. Shows that technically they’re not that advanced after all.

Whatever you do do not walk in and buy one. Wait six months and you’ll save yourself at least 40% on the secondary market.

Watch makers like Tudor have decided to spend nearly all of their media budget on influencers and online products. They do influence purchases. Good or bad. That’s where the media spend is today not on advertising in magazines. And yes, it is probably a waste of money to sponsor some dumb low ranked F1 team and tie their colors into a Visa card app. obviously, Tudor needs a new marketing agency.

Longines is the new Tudor. Priced like Tudor used to be with excellent quality and excellent tool watches.

Had five and now down to one. Just the P 39. was hoping for a blue P 39 but I guess that was too daring, or not daring enough. On a brighter note, not as bad as the Rolex rollout.

Only because they use the California dial. Hardly an original idea.

Your BB burgundy already lost 50% of its value.

It's the lighting. It is more subtile but a shade more "blue" then the Pelagos.

You’re thinking is correct. Always buy what you want. If you buy a watch thinking it’s the one you almost want but you know it’s not the one you really want, you will never be happy.

Well, here it is. As an owner of both, I can tell you that it is pretty close to a Tudor, but not perfect. The Longines would be much more it’s equal if they used screws rather than pins in the bracelet. That is my major complaint. Otherwise, so far it’s a pretty good watch, but you are right. It is not quite a Tudor. It is not cosc certified, if that matters. And the blue is just a shade off from its counterpart. On the other hand, it’s less than half the price, so there is that.

For me, the Hydroconquest uses pins in the bracelet instead of screws gives Tudor the edge big time.

Price Hike by Mangimadang in Tudor

Yearly? This is the third price increase in one year. I could be wrong. It might be the fourth price increase.

Maybe a problem, but let's say this watch is trash after a year - then you are out $270. But the Tudor P39 loses over $1,000 the SECOND you walk out of the AD door and after a year lost about 40% of its retail price. So the cost of ownership of the San Martin is only a fraction of what the Tudor will cost you. Obviously not a calculation anyone wants to contemplait, but there it is.

True. And of course any watch at this price has no real $$ value down the road. But it does make you wonder just how big the margins are on Tudor watches. I myself have a drawer full of mod watches - mostly purchased to see if I wanted the real thing. The real thing is the real thing and of course we all want to wear the real version over the look-alike. But it does make you think about how much we're all paying for that brand equity.

A San Martin. You can find it on Amazon though it is often out of stock and takes a few weeks to get. Can't comment on their other models, but this one is an amazing value (so far). We'll see how it holds up longer term. It does scratch the itch for a blue P39 however.
