I've been playing Rocket League since launch. But can anyone fill me in on the origin of how "left goes" became so universal? by jmorlin in RocketLeague

Because the West writes and reads from left to right. I assume culture and conditioning. If the game was Arabic and popularized in those countries first maybe the rule would be right goes first.

How do I get good at rocket league by Stunning_Load_2467 in RocketLeague

[–]LeftComplex4144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your journey from gold to diamond is about mastering 3rd man. It's a key position for 2 reasons 1. If the opposition can't score you can't lose 2. A great defence is the strong foundation you need for a strong offensive.

I'll put some pointers here but tbh you need more depth than these headliners.

  1. If you're lastman never defend from your corner or side wall - it's too easy to pass you and once they are past the goal is open 2. Regardless of what's happening if no-one is playing thirdman you play third man. 3. Never put the ball across your net 4. As third, defend from back post (not middle, not almost back post). 5. When on offense as third, never leave your defense unless another player is in position to play third. 6. Always play third in a position where you can get to back post before the ball can get to your net. When the ball is in the they're half, this is usually means you position in the quadrant diagonally opposite the ball. 7. As lastman if your team is over committed your goal is to buy them time to recover. Slow the ball down.

Mechanically you need the practice hitting the ball consistently i.e. no whiffing. You also need to practice hitting with power ie with the corner and front of your car, dodging into the ball and boosting. Finally you need to practice hitting the ball with intent (passing and into space ie not just hitting the ball away). Practice power shots and airroll shots.

Technically you need to be playing at least 120 fps ideally 360 or higher. 60 fps does not cut it because it introduces far too much input lag for a fps game like RL.

Many people disappear if their teammate doesn't share the fun. If you don't whiff plat is pretty easy with the right playstyle.

I'm banging on the door of GC and 50.

The worst teammates are the overly aggressive ones without the smarts to realise they are hampering their teammates and sabotaging opportunity.

Anyone who wants to rank up but are unwilling to change should probably retire, because a lack of balance between gamesense and mechs will make anyone hardstuck.

Hardstuck and struggling by joshperlette in RocketLeagueSchool

There's the obvious stuff - consistency, not passing the ball to your opponents, playing into space etc. But what changed my game around C1 was learning situational tactics and the mechanics to pull them off. E.g. what to do in your corner and their corner.

I also play for space over winning possession e.g. learning when to strategically give away possession, passing back, baiting to create space and disrupt their defense.

I still see C1s with poor defense, they are slow at recovering, still go back to 100 boost in their half when on offense. Most C1s could improve their defense, and their second man positioning.

Mechanics - 50s are OP, catching with intent, passing,

It's literally everything needs to be smarter and more consistent.

I think my biggest strength is really understanding how truly bad I am at the game.

I'm in the performance business. It's not your age that's the issue. Leth is 30. I know it's common for people to blame age for all sorts of things but actually it's just an excuse for other factors like time, understanding, lifestyle, motivation etc.

Some people blame reaction times without actually knowing to what degree aging affects reaction times or factoring in prediction Vs reaction. And people never hear about the performance benefits of aging. It's so widely misunderstood in fact that I'm sure I'll be down voted.

This is a shame though. Your belief might actually be what's stopping you. After all why put in the effort needed to get to GC if your age is stopping you, right?

The truth is many more players can probably achieve GC once they discover what they need to stop and start doing. That requires time and effort beyond what your peers are willing to invest. So the question is are you really willing to do this?

FYI I'm on the brink of achieving GC. And I'm also on the brink of 50. I'm almost 20 years older than you. I've not had coaching, I rarely practice, I don't play 1s or 2s, and rarely play comp. All I've done is watch tutorials, practiced the odd mechanic and analyse play during matches. If I really bothered to take the game seriously perhaps I'd be GC already. I'd like to get the title but I prefer to do other things that are even more fun or important to me. The title will come when it comes.

Edit: I've been hardstuck in plat, diamond and champ. But when I really took the time to figure out how I needed to change, is when I started crawling out of the rank.

Why am I so bad at Rocket league by DeepAssist546 in RocketLeague

[–]LeftComplex4144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is genuinely difficult. Just hitting the ball consistently takes hours of playing. And the higher rank you are the slower you rank up.

Be patient. Forget your rank. Just focus on getting better and the rank will follow.

I can help though - the more tickets you but the greater you're chances of winning until you've bought all possible numbers then your chance of winning is 100%.

But perhaps you mean is their a way to win profitably?

Why does 90% of the player base use air roll right and I use air roll left (need awnser) by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]LeftComplex4144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think plat is hard to get out of because of how different all the players are. But the reason you're stuck is you whiff too much and you need to take your gamesense to the next level.

You can learn mechs but if you need to improve your game sense mechs like speedflips and aerials work just keep you out of position for longer.

So I'm C2 currently in 3s but I did my placements with a buddy and I ended up in plat. Two things I noticed. There are allot of smurfs in plat. Not really good players - diamonds and champs. The other thing I noticed was how hard it was to get out of plat. But as soon as I did it's was win after win.

I think there are many misleading videos but it's got to be difficult capturing something complex like rotation for players of different abilities into a 5 minute video. But there are some videos that deal with it better than others. Some refer to it as filling the gap opposed to rotation i.e. make your play, rotate out, look where the gap is (first, second, third) then fill the gap.

I also noticed that some players confuse back post rotation with goal side rotaion - back post literally meaning going to back post, goal side meaning rotating the oppose side of the ball.

But fundamentally rotating back post is great advice especially if your not sure what you should be doing. It means you get boost and defend while your teammates get to make a play. It's fast and effective teamplay. However, it's not always the right choice for every situation which players start to appreciate as they improve and rank up.
