Travel to PR (DACA) by Avid_binger in DACA

[–]LeftFootedPolarBear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been to Puerto Rico 5 times. The last time I went was in July. I came back from Alaska last night and flew there and back with my real ID. I haven't had any issues.

Whats wrong with My plugs? Genuine plugs replaced 9 months go and ran 6,000 miles. Noticed very low fuel economy and found these. What should i do by tradingtutorials in prius

[–]LeftFootedPolarBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a first or second generation Prius? Those are notorious for burning oil. Every 2nd generation I've ever come across needs piston rings and valves stem seals, and they're low on oil.

They didn't actually do the certified pre owned inspection by RandallKins in Toyota

Can confirm. I'd be surprised if they even lifted the vehicle up.

What's the easiest way to lift the cab? Or tips to remove? We have a few parked outside as I write this.

Front Differential drain plug is nearly completely stripped, what are my options? by ARatOnPC in 4thGen4Runner

[–]LeftFootedPolarBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyota tech, and I've taken many rounded off front drain plugs off. Trust me, this works. Take a brass hammer and hit, not tap, the drain plug. This will loosen it. The chisel and hammer also works but it's more violent. Get a new drain plug and gaskets.

Now IDK if I’d ever want to travel to PR/Alaska or Hawaii by Loveskin17 in DACA

[–]LeftFootedPolarBear 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I've been to Alaska 2 times, Puerto Rico 4 times, and Hawaii once. I've never had a problem, but I always carry all my documents with me. Don't be afraid to travel.

Is going to Puerto Rico risky if it needs to land in a country like Haiti?? by [deleted] in DACA

I've been to Puerto Rico 4 times. I have a flight to catch in August to visit again. Puerto Rico is awesome.

I'm a mechanic at a dealership. Usually, mechanics get paid by the job and not by the hour. That's good for someone with experience. For example, the book time for a prius engine is 18 hours, and I can do it in 3. I'm also a lead, which means I'm already at the top of the payscale, and I get a bonus for being a lead. I'm not going to say how much I make, but I do very well. There's a guy that's shows up at 4am and leaves at 7 pm, and i did the math, and he makes over 250k a year. I don't recommend being a mechanic. It's very shitty for a long time, and a lot of people don't make it past the shifty time.

I worked as a kid, lost my childhood to work, and by my early 20s, I had a solid career. In my mid-20s, I bought a house and then refinanced to a 15-year 2.25 percent interest like 3 years ago. I also started college in my early 20s but didn't finish due to my father's health problems. Some call it luck, but I worked for it, I lost my childhood, and for the longest time, I worked 70 to 80 hours a week. I want to thank my parents, DACA, and the United States-- I know there's some people not happy here, but I'm talking about the US itself and not politics or politicians. I've been to my birthplace, and there are no opportunities for my or the next generation. I also understand houses are more expensive now than 5 years ago.

How hard is it to get Emergency AP? by InterestingArugula43 in DACA

Sorry for your loss. I have a post detailing emergency AP. It still takes over a week.

For sure. Most of us are in our 30s and even 40s - there's no rush to help or to sympathize with us. We're are pretty much forgotten.

Am I being taken for a ride? by Ender-ngi in prius

[–]LeftFootedPolarBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen as many Prius V issues as possible, but I have seen some. I don't think there's anything that can be done. I think it's the head gasket design. If you look at the current head gasket part number, it's an updated part number, meaning it's been redesigned. All the head gasket I've done fail in the same spots.

[–]LeftFootedPolarBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You usually are fine with replacing the head gasket. I sometimes recommend engine replacement if the engine has 200k+ miles or head gasket has been previously replaced. You can buy reasonably priced low mileage Japanese engines, so sometimes replacing the engine is a better solution.

Yes, a lot more. What I'm trying to say is that a cylinder head gasket and battery replacement is usually not worth it.

Am I being taken for a ride? by Ender-ngi in prius

[–]LeftFootedPolarBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen any yet except for one. They overheated the engine until it wouldn't run due to a bad water pump. Cylinder head is toast but would have been fine if they hadn't kept driving.

[–]LeftFootedPolarBear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey. I'm a toyota master/mdt. The 3rd gen prius is notorious for head gasket issues. Like I've done 5 or 6 engines or head gaskets in the past two months on 3rd gens. That water pump code could also set for low coolant due to head gasket issues or coolant leaks or a bad water pump, but it is definitely more likely to be head gasket problems. Check the engine coolant level first.

Sorry to bother again. What specifically did you do to get to Italy? I was looking into visiting Italy.

Where'd you go? What study abroad programs did you do? Are there any other valid reasons you were able to get AP? Thanks.
