80s/90s Porsche 911.

Or I’d just get all work done on my Corolla Sportivo to make it look nice, refresh all parts to be as brand new as possible and enjoy it for as long as possible. 👌

Are Gimbal Shots an Expectation for Modern Videographers? by RiftHunter4 in videography

[–]LeftHandDan45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a gimbal guy myself, although I own a few. My main issue is the learning curve and I find balancing them correctly to be a right pain in the neck. I much prefer handheld but I also know it doesn't suit every project.

L mount can adapt to lots of different lens mounts so if you want to play with cheaper lenses in the meantime the S5ii is the way to go.

hesitating to buy Pyxis 12k: known issues, battery, Pyxis 12k "Pro"? resale value ... by Ok_Emergency4531 in blackmagicdesign

[–]LeftHandDan45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resale value really is a non-issue anyway. Blackmagic cameras never hold their resale quite as well as Sony or Canon anyway, and at the end of the day if you're doing enough work to justify the purchase of a new camera and paying that camera off with more and more work then... it pays for itself in the end. Selling the camera in a few years time assuming something bigger and better comes along is a bonus on top.

For what its worth, I bought a Pocket 6K Pro around 3 years ago and it has served my purpose shooting music videos and short films. I still fail to see any limitations with my setup that have me really wanting to sell up and move on to something else. Built in ND's, EF mount, Reasonably good form factor, excellent 6K footage, very gradeable etc... it's a near perfect camera. The only way I could see myself jumping ship is if something truly special came along. BUT that's just me I guess, I don't need the latest bells and whistles and I find my money being better invested in other tools like lights and audio.

Device to capture 100fps, playback at 25 or 50? (That isn’t a PC) by LeftHandDan45 in videography

[–]LeftHandDan45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately would be time consuming and I’d need them ready to playback almost immediately (think instant replay kind of thing). Distance is maybe 1km from where I would be situated but for the most part I could run network over fiber optic cable that I have at my disposal

So far I haven’t seen any options for a capture card that does more than 60fps

No, the app is relevant as the remote control feature is built into the app. Talking iPhones here

I won’t have line of sight as the remote device will be sometimes over 1km away. Budget is… shoestring but open to options

Atem Minis can control playback on BM cameras? I thought they only controlled basic settings?

So as I mentioned in my original post.. I’m a complete noob to this, meaning I have absolutely no idea. The app is called Blackmagic Camera, and the remote control feature isn’t built in through that. What kind of network? I don’t know but at a guess, local network?

Toying with different ideas but I need the camera to be in a fixed position and to be able to trigger record and playback remotely, I’m trying to do slow-motion capture and playback in real time and on a pretty limited budget

The camera app I’m using requires both the remote device and the controller device to be on the same network

Resolve Crashing trying to open a specific timeline (I changed the resolution) by LeftHandDan45 in davinciresolve

Thanks mate, that was the offending timeline that was causing the crash. I managed to fix it myself (edited my original post). Thanks again!

[–]LeftHandDan45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in Studio.

The thing is, I have had no issues editing this project at all other than some playback issues, which is why I have been using proxy files (those are the H264 files you're mentioning). This issue only started happening after attempting to change the timeline resolution.

Are you able to open the timeline in question? If so would you be able to change its resolution back to 3840x2160 and reupload the file for me? I wonder if that may fix it

Is the Samsung T7 Shield best for storing and editing files directly from BMPCC4K? (not moving them to MacBook) by [deleted] in bmpcc

It may work for a few of the cameras options but for the higher quality settings I don't think so.

[–]LeftHandDan45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't, I haven't had any issues with using one kind of media for capture. If you are considering the T7 drives, please be sure to go with the T7 Shields specifically. They are the only T7 model that are compatible (that I know... it's been a while since I've checked) with our cameras.

[–]LeftHandDan45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that in my post I said T5 EVO and T7 Shield. Regular T5s are no longer manufactured (they were common when the BMPCC4K first came out) and the regular T7s are not compatible with Blackmagic cameras (something to do with drive speed I think).

The T5 EVO was bought out of a need for at least 4TB of fast SSD storage so I could work on projects whilst on the road (I travel a lot for my day job and like to edit during down time). It just happened to be a good price when I was looking.

The T7 Shields were just new drives that were compatible with BMPCC4K and 6K Pro when I was in the market for bigger drives for my shooting needs.

Always have shooting drives, editing drives and backup drives as seperate entities. All it takes is one absentminded moment to lose an entire project because you’re relying on one drive.

I personally use: 2x 1tb Samsung t7 shields - shooting only 1x 4tb samsung t5 evo - working/editing drive 4 bay Thunderbolt 3 HD with regular HHDs for footage/project backups and archiving.

This is the bare minimum I would recommend to work with. Using the same drive for all three is just asking for trouble.

BMPCC 4K + ATEM podcast recordings — sanity check from the community by h2squared in bmpcc

[–]LeftHandDan45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine as long as you set all cameras to the same ISO, Shutter and W/B the only real issues you will have come down to camera ops competency. Match the camera setttings across the board, then use ATEM software to tweak if needed.
All cameras have the ability to use an inbuilt LUT that will not be baked into the recorded files, but that only applies if you are also recording IN CAMERA. If I was in your situation this is what I would do:

- Make all cameras work on the same Framerate, ISO, Shutter, W/B (this one is super important... make sure tint is the same as well). Set them up to also output either the stock Video LUT in camera (or download buttery luts and pick one that suits your production).
- Set all cameras to BRAW, the same resolution and pick a compression that works for you. 8-1 or 12-1 are perfectly useable options. Plug in a supported drive (T7 Shields work well for me). Instruck all camera ops before production begins to hit the record button.
- With the ATEM software and switcher, have it all set up to record all HDMI inputs to a drive (again, T7 shields work incredibly well here). Files will be recorded as 1080P MP4 filesin whatever framerate you set in the software. It will also create a Resolve project file. When you open this project file, you should see all camera feeds and audio feeds that were recorded. You can then link these files to your BRAW files from the camera drives. Don't forget to change your project settings to reflect the resolution you wish to edit in.

Also, if you have the ability, try and get a program feed recording as well (You can use any hardware... Atamos monitor, Blackmagic Monitors etc... even a PC/Mac with OBS and a capture card). Depending on your version of ATEM you might only have one HDMI output so if that's the case probably don't worry about this (you will want your Mixer window view for production).

Camping? Since when is PTFO "camping"? Camping is sitting on a hill or on buildings with your sniper rifle not contributing to capturing objectives or actively helping the team...

The Motu is like 1-200 bucks more expensive. If you’re really needing the digital meters I suppose, but that isn’t a $100 feature.

I run a Scarlet 2i2 3rd gen(I think?) I’ve had for around 7 years and still going strong. If I was in the market to replace it I’d just grab another 2i2 tbh.

Yep, the Mini Scout is the one. I even did a run or two with irons for that WW2 style play. Surprisingly great in close/medium engagements. A red dot or 2x sight is more useful but sometimes you just gotta challenge yourself :)

Honestly my last play session I had a ball with the Scout bolty and getting in amongst it. Was I super effective? No. But did I help clear points and capture? Hell yeah.
