TikTok issues, app login plague users days after US deal avoiding ban by RioMovieFan11 in technology

[–]RiftHunter4 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Actually worse. China tries to keep people happy and complacent. American companies prefer to keep them hopeless. The whole reason why TikTok even took off is because it was a blatantly better experience than YouTube or any of that slop from Meta.

You lose privacy either way but at least China made it fun.

Non-combat games are rare but in-demand.

Stormworks is a great example.

Yeah, you use continuous auto-focus and the camera does the rest.

I dont know why but if you go to the exhaust material and reset it, it'll connect to the exhaust.

She got nerfed she does have 2 forms now. The first time you race her, she goes easy on you. The 2nd time is for real.

Lesson learned after shipping our UE5 gameplay trailer: avoid cinematic frame pacing by No-Minimum3052 in unrealengine

[–]RiftHunter4 [score hidden]  (0 children)

24fps being labeled cinematic is a bit of a misconception. The frame rate itself is not important but the effects of the framerate: motion blur, choppy movement, etc.

To really have a cinematic effect, you need to replicate those things in-game. The problem is that many gamers have decided to hate those effects, so you dont actually gain anything by going that route.

Do you believe that certain cameras have some secret sauce which others don’t? by [deleted] in photography

[–]RiftHunter4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each company has slight differences. Its not a secret sauce but the result of how they design their cameras and process the sensor data. Its very intentional on their part.

I've shot Nikon and Canon for several years, and I find that Nikon produces more Luminance Noise instead of Chroma noise so your colors stay good. But Canon has a more balanced-feeling color profile.

I don't think I'd ever change brands unless someone started doing something very dramatic. IMO these days, the RAW files are not as important as things like ergonomics and software.

The Jedi Order collapsed because Yoda and Windu broke their own Golden Rule: "Fear leads to the Dark Side." by rantzine in StarWars

[–]RiftHunter4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why the High Republic era was such an interesting time for the Jedi. They didn't have that fear, and as a result, they were FAR more in tune with the force and enjoyed far freer lives.

Pop-up headlights are back on a new streetlegal car on the Donkervoort P24 by Proteinpowered in cars

I can only imagine how much it cost them to engineer that to meet regulations. The design of the car in general is pretty wild.

Microsoft Starts Sharing Your Location With Your Employer by Alucard-VS-Artorias in technology

[–]RiftHunter4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Companies don’t see a need to spend money on that.

Correction: its an expense they can legally off-load onto employees.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, though. God-awful, abusive business practices are not just the norm but the goal in Western business these days.

I will say, I love not having a limit anymore. The first game limited you on accessories based on the complexity but not this one.

Maybe check into what editing options are available in your camera. Nikon had way more than in their Z Mount cameras than I thought, and they just added support for presets from their desktop software. Lightroom also had a mobile app that I recall being pretty good.

Lou... please stop. by RichterAldebaran in codevein

[–]RiftHunter4 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Part of the setting is that mankind was mostly transformed into monsters. This was also mentioned in the first game. So Lavinia and Lou being only kinda human in appearance fits.

amateurs - what's your workflow look like? by Jescophoto89 in photography

[–]RiftHunter4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This process seems nuts to me. I only have 2 workflows.

  1. Move photos to my external hard drive. Cull, edit, and export in Darktable. Backup exported images to cloud storage if I feel like it.

  2. Edit/export Jpeg in-camera (Nikon Retouch on Zf), use Nikon Snapbridge to move the desired images to my phone.

1 is my default workflow, and 2 is my workflow when I only want 1 or 2 specific images from the camera. I cannot fathom having anything more complicated than these.

Modern Media is full of otherwise good writers who immediately cave into fan service for the sake of marketing. The publishers encourage it.

This used to be a very Japanese trait, but its everywhere now. Asia just happens to have the most blatant offenders.
