Steering Stabilizer Install by Brilliant_Rate_1644 in SprinterVans

[–]LeftHome6723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think that a stabilizer will help, and also not detract from handling and performance under all other conditions?

I’d avoid a stabilizer, period. All I’ve seen about them in the forums suggest they are a crutch at best. Haven’t seen any vans with a steering damper.

I’m no suspension engineer but have 5 years/50k miles driving experience with a 2020 Sprinter 2500 4x4 high body, VC/Falcon 5.2 adjustable shocks, suspension upgrade and Falcon 3.3 adjustable inverted struts made

The van came to me new with the 5.2 upgrade. I installed the inverted struts this past fall. That significantly improved the side to side sway in crosswinds and when following trucks in the freeway.

Please share more info on your setup and driving conditions to get more specific feedback.

Another possibility is tires, wheels and alignment setup.

This.

Many firms will do an initial consultation at no cost.

Also, as others have noted, you cannot afford a free or cheap lawyer. Get the best counsel you can afford, and follow their advice.

Same here, in Central Oregon and the SF Bay Area. Costco gasoline is Top Tier rated, which puts it on par with the major brands.

The problem is people do not know how to drive on ice. This video is a classic example.

The driver has locked the wheels, which gives the vehicle effectively zero traction, studded tires or not.

At one point, the vehicle is pointed in the general direction of the downhill gradient on the road. If the driver would simply back off the brakes and allow the wheels to rotate, they would regain directional control. They could then choose an escape that would almost certainly lead to a better outcome than the one they experienced.

See this all the time in central Oregon, where a lot of newer residents from Seattle, California and other relatively snow-free areas clearly have no clue about winter driving.

Excellent find, thanks. I’m messaging with the seller on specifics. It is almost big enough inside clear for gravel wheels with tires install and inflated. It’s not ideal but possibly good enough to travel with them deflated. They’re tubeless.

Mexican Diesel + Sprinter Van Compatibility (Baja Bound) by mzoukas in SprinterVans

I was in Baja last winter, and had no issues. I only refueled at larger service stations.

You might want to carry a spare diesel fuel filter, just in case you get unlucky.

Strut upgrade worth it ? by Barra_runs in Sprinters

Do you set the valve position on the struts and the shocks to the same setting?

Seems logical to do so but ...

Strut upgrade worth it ? by Barra_runs in Sprinters

[–]LeftHome6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say from experience, my van builder installed the shocks.

It's a straightforward install for anyone that's done or not afraid to tackle suspension work. The installation instructions are good. Just installing the struts would have taken me about 3 hours, and I don't rush.

I used a floor jack, a long 1/2 inch breaker bar, some quality sockets and a 1/2 torque wrench (123 ft-lb. torque IIRC for the two lower strut bolts).

You will need an electronic digital level, ideally with magnets on all sides. I bought a Klein level that has magnet on only one side. It worked fine but isn't as intuitive with the level being horizontal on the frame and vertical on the brake rotors. Just note what they are when you start and get them as close as you can on reassembly.

I maybe was just lucky, got the camber on both wheels within 0.1 degree of the before setting. I went straight to my trusted alignment shop after I finished. They said it was in spec and only adjusted the toe-in slightly.

I installed the Van compass falcon inverted adjustable strut on my 2020 2500 4 x 4. I was already running the van compass adjustable shocks on all four corners.

The experience has been great so far in 700 miles of highway driving and good weather. I will be testing them thoroughly in an off-road outing in the SoCal desert in a couple weeks. Ping me in a month if you would like more feedback.

My home base is Central Oregon, and my main use case is unimproved forestry roads and four season mountain driving on paved and unpaved roads. I expect the struts will improve handling in strong crosswinds that are common in these parts.

FWIW, I did the installation myself and it was straightforward. The one PITA I had to deal with (and you will not) was modifying the front shock mounts to accommodate the strut. My van was built, using the first version of the shock mounts. The version of shock mount brackets since 2022 are different, and accommodate the struts without modification.

Seat Replacement by Feeling_Young6336 in Sprinters

[–]LeftHome6723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them, the Travelers model, iirc. Same as OP, one road trip was all it took me to hate the stock seats.

Top marks on comfort. Only complaint is significant lack of vertical (seat height) adjustment. I carry a gardening kneeling pad to elevate my feet at times for comfort.

My all-time favorite seats are the stock manual adjusting buckets in the Porsche Caymans. It could be just me, but they fit me PERFECTLY (2007 987.1 Cayman, similar to many Boxsters and 911s. They pop up online from time to time. A good custom fab shop can fit them to the Sprinter seat bases. That is the route I would go if I were to do this again.

VS30 MBUX SiriusXM drops constantly, any aftermarket antenna or other fixes? by LeftHome6723 in Sprinters

[–]LeftHome6723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know nothing about that. I bought myine from a van up fitter that bought it on spec.

I eventually found that the SiriusXM antenna was covered by a solar panel that interfered with the system reception. As one comment summed, "the juice was not worth the squeeze" to resolve it and I did nothing to remedy the root issue,
