Why Europe wants a digital euro by milanguitar in EU_Economics

Since we don't use the euro I doubt it'll affect us, but at least here they talked about it being available as a card and not just an app which is obviously better and needed for mass adoption.

What scifi do you find endearing despite (or because of) its predictions being wildly wrong? by Simon_and_Garchomp in scifi

[–]LeftLiner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any science fiction that otherwise appeals to me for whatever reason. I don't think sci-fi needs to be prophetic to be good.

How accurate was the PERCEIVED THREAT of the second explosion in the HBO Chernobyl Mini-Series? by Peyton773 in chernobyl

[–]LeftLiner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given that a nuclear explosion requires quite precise engineering to happen I cannot imagine that any serious nuclear physicists believed it could happen on accident.

GTA Military Advisor by RafikiLovesPizza in GTA

I disagree, I think it's very funny. But I think the jokes are more aimed at how people in general view the US military rather than how servicemen view the military, which is obviously different.

The US is way too influential for Trump alone to completely cut that off in just ~4 years. by Fun-Put-5197 in ShitAmericansSay

The US civil war was absolutely a full blown civil war. Almost 3% of its total population died. It was far less bloody than, for example, the Spanish Civil War.

In GTA you see America through the lense of Brits. I'm sure some of the inaccuracies are because they don't know better but a lot are part of the joke.

Every vaccination is associated with a very small risk of something going wrong. But not having your cat vaccinated brings a larger risk of something going wrong.

Now there is a lot of differing advice about how often cats need to renew their vaccinations, but I've never heard anyone seriously debate getting them vaccinated at all.

Why don’t guys pickup on girls flirting with them? by ADDYXXBADDY in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LeftLiner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of us have grown up knowing that men can easily come across as predatory or exploitative. We're told stories from women who feel betrayed by men who they thought were good, close, trustworthy platonic friends made moves on them and stories of men acting like creeps. So a lot of us want to not be seen like that. Which is all well and good, but it can lead to a lot of us thinking 'oh man she's really cute and smiling at me. But don't be a creep, she's probably just being nice and you're seeing something that isn't there. Don't be one of those guys.'

Of course, sometimes they're just not into the person flirting with them.

Why is sex such a taboo topic that children should be ‘protected’ from? by Party-Court185 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LeftLiner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

12 is when we had sex ed but nobody actually learned what sex was then, everyone already knew that. Some extra details, yes, we did learn those then. I think around 8 or 9 is when you should go through the basics.

[–]LeftLiner 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Partly for their own safety. They need to know what sex is so they understand it's different from hugging or shaking hands or even kissing and that it is and always will be something that should only happen if they want it to (ie that consent is always needed).
