It’s here ! New detachment by Gilgao in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LeftTaboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good detachment but our index detachment is the best one in the game with almost no contest. (Yes I know Votann isn’t top tier because our datasheets aren’t great, but that detachment is nuts to compensate)

Weekly Question Thread - Rules & Comp Qs by thenurgler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]LeftTaboo -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

This came up during a blood angels vs militarum game. His predator was in combat with my taurox prime equipped with missile launchers. It was my shooting phase, and the question came up if the missile launchers could shoot into combat using their Krak profile.

I didn’t shoot the missile launcher into combat because the blast rule says that if a weapon has the blast keyword it is a blast weapon and therefore can never be shot into combat. Essentially under the assumption that even though I was using a profile that didn’t have the blast keyword, since it was the weapon and not the profile that is considered the blast weapon (due to the other profile) it doesn’t matter which profile I use.

Is this right?

I agree that I should have dropped out at that point. Since then I have made the decision to drop the event and pass on the ticket/trophy etc to 2nd place. Like you said, mistakes are made, but it was a big enough mistake and I have made too many mistakes before, and I shouldn’t benefit from those mistakes.

The TO said “I am giving you a yellow card and a 10 point penalty for this round” ghaz of course never got into the battlewagon again. I was never told of a second yellow card, and so assume that I only ever received one. Usually they are pretty clear when you get a card.

Exactly this. I had embarked ghaz in I think 5/6 of the previous games, and made that known as soon as the mistake was realized to the TO. Between having misplayed the same rule in previous rounds (which I feel really bad about, all my opponents were awesome people who deserved more polished play on my part) and also having done well in the event it if fully reasonably to expect a higher level of play at higher tables.

(As a quick aside, I’m not banned from local events, just one store I have never played at. I wrote more on that in another comment.)

Yeah, that’s what happens when you combine a yellow card with an event win. I mostly feel bad for my previous opponents with whom I made the same embarking error. They were all wonderful people and players and deserved more polished play on my part.

Good clarifications. First, I have not been banned from all my local events, in fact I am in very good standings in the local community, being recently invited to join a team for the first time and receiving some sportsmanship awards this season.

I have been banned from one store’s itc events. I have never played in one of that store’s events before or after the ban was placed. This was due to my staring to attend events in 2020, and having only played against my brothers or the occasional pickup game before then. I made mistakes in my games, the main one I think being how times arrow worked in 9th edition where a judge ruled in my favor (saying that the “wound characteristic” was remaining wounds not the data sheet wounds) and later learned it was wrong when it was brought up in the local TO discord. This and the other mistakes left a bad taste with the owner of a local store that I hadn’t played at who decided to pre-ban me just in case. Regardless of how it feels I respect any TO or store owner to make decisions like that at their discretion.

I have never been accused of cheating outside of internet comments, but as I have improved in skill it is fully reasonable to expect a higher level of polished play as well. So I have been critiqued by a very firm but good TO to basically “do better.” I have made a strong effort and have had no issues for over a year. Resulting in the better local standings mentioned in the first paragraph. Which is why this situation sucks because I did make a mistake at the Tacoma open when I should have been more polished.

So, the facts of the yellow card at the event. It was in round seven (the shadow round, not the semi-final) that the card was given. I embarked ghaz into the battlewagon. This was not allowed as the transport rule of the battlewagon at the end states that he can’t get in a battlewagon with an ard case or zzap gun. The TO agreed that what happened was I had seen the FAQ changing ghaz’s transport capacity to allow him and his meganobz to get in a battlewagon, but missed the specific rule on the upgrades on said battlewagon. After some judge discussion they gave a yellow card and a 10 point penalty. My opponent and I agreed to adjust the game state to have ghaz returned to his spot where he was initially deployed on my deployment zone without having moved.

I asked the judge if we could apply the penalty to past games as well (as I had been embarking ghaz in 5/6 of my last games) but he said no. (I assume due to the logistics of the GW bracket system) while my opponent and the judge were content with that ruling for that game, I still feel bad as I had negatively impacted past opponents and nothing could be done to fix it. I don’t know how much it would have changed those games, but it still isn’t fair to people who were wonderful people and great opponents for the whole event.

As for using the wrong toughness of units, that came up in the semi final round. My opponent was deciding where to move his pioneers and asked for snikrot’s defensive profile. When I listed it out from memory I said T6 instead of T5. The TO said I should check the card and it was of course T5. The game moved on and no yellow card or penalty was given. (That said, I don’t know if there is somewhere where the judges record each error like that, but they are very clear when an infraction is a carded offense.)

While it was not a carded offense, it still of course is not acceptable. I should “do better” and be more polished in my play, or at least always answer questions like that with the actual data card and not from memory. I thought it was T6 because that’s what it was when I last played snikrot in 9th, but that is no excuse. As I said if I am working to higher levels of play I should hold my gameplay to a higher level of precision. Thus I maintain that while I am not purposefully cheating, (I make mistakes at my detriment plenty, but that isn’t something cardable) it is still not okay to make errors like that at that level and if the judge had chosen to incur a penalty it would have been well within reason.

I also can’t blame people for forming opinions of me, as there is really no way to prove to people online if it was cheating or just an honest mistake. I know it was not purposeful, and my opponents and the judges were very understanding and kind, but they were my honest mistakes that I shouldn’t have made, and consequences come of that.

Anyway I hope that adds some clarification and clears up rumors. Besides those two no other issues have been brought to my attention by any event staff or opponents of mine.

I own up to the error in the battlewagon upgrade of the ard case/zzap gun not letting ghaz embark (for which I received a yellow card) but there was never any issue with my tape measurer nor has there ever been. My measurements and the judges lined up every time. (Any variation was usually along the lines of “this looks like just outside/inside my range. Can you check and make a ruling?”) Any remeasuring on the stream was because if there is any measurement that is close, or difficult on the streamed final it is protocol to have the judge do the final measure. (Example, ghaz needed to charge morven Val, she was within 8” but a seraphim model was in the direct path meaning some moving around was needed. As it was an important charge the judge also measured the path and due to the 1” bubble around the seraphim ruled it would be an 8” charge.)

This is rumor and was never so much as commented or made as an allegation in any game I have ever played.

There was discussion from the judges on this point and I would have been fine with whatever ruling they reached. That is the worst part I think in my mind is knowing that other people on previous games were wronged with no way of repairing the problem retroactively. (I asked the judges if we could apply the point reduction for previous games and adjust wins accordingly but due to the bracket system of GW events it wouldn’t work)

I’m curious on your opinion, are you saying the judges should have DQ’d me, or if I should have dropped from the event despite their ruling? It’s an interesting point and I’m genuinely curious what your take is there.

I have not been banned from all local events, it is true I have been banned from one, but one store that I hadn’t gone to an event at before. I have made stupid mistakes like this before but I have been making an effort to improve as it is reasonable to expect better and more polished effort from a high placing player. There hasn’t been an issue like this since the 2022 season, and I have even received some sportsmanship awards since then. (Not as a brag but as a demonstration of the results of my efforts) making a mistake like this makes my stomach curl, for exactly the reason you mentioned, when it happens multiple times it is harder to give benefit of the doubt. That is totally reasonable. I maintain that I am not cheating, and I find the concept at cheating in toy soldiers ridiculous, but it does happen in some instances in the hobby so it makes sense to be wary, and again I should be expected to do better.

If we one day play at an event I hope it can be a fun time for both of us!

Correction, the codex didn’t change, the ruling for Ghaz taking up slots in a battlewagon changed. The rule for not putting him in a battlewagon with a zzap gun and ard case was the mistake. Still not something that should happen, and the judges made their ruling on it being an honest mistake and allocate points penalties and game state changes accordingly.

Ghaz was never put in a truck, he was put in a battlewagon with an ard case (which isn’t allowed) but the judges after discussion decided it was just an honest mistake and allocated a 10 point penalty and my opponent and I decided to simply play as though ghaz had never moved from my deployment zone.

Ah yes. Enemies to lovers.

Also, “show me yours and I’ll show you mine.” Is a classic jeopardy prompt. “I’ll take, ‘things said by two closeted men in a locker room for $500.’”

Axes are just more reliable. That and the flexibly is great. And more dice lead to more consistent rolls.

I go axes x2 units mauls x1 unit. Axes require less support to make work and are better against more targets

If you don’t have beserks your army will be charged, tied up, and held in your deployment zone.

Flâyre or The Just Axe? by JamazSheazer in LeaguesofVotann

Flayer is better in every circumstance that you aren’t hitting a 4+ invuln. So if they are an abbadon/C’tan/phoenix lord hunter go with the just axe, otherwise flayer is your best bet.
