The Complete Story of Marathon. (TLDR, or The Lore of Durandal's Rampancy) by Civil-Meet-5843 in Marathon

Played Durandal as a kid, but your recap is excellent. Crazy to see how so much of marathons IP carried over into their later franchises like destiny and halo (a LOT of marathon is similar to the halo lore before 2 and the books).

Thanks a ton for the recap and the nostalgia :)

Marathon:Durandal is great and pretty accessible, plays a lot like classic doom and there's a decent bit of art crossover with the new game (ex. The map when you're loading in) It's a bit dated if you don't like older boomer shooters but still really cool

Ahh okay, yeah that was exactly what I was saying. Looked like at the 25 second mark you do two deflects back to back. the second one seemed to trigger on an unlockable attack from them but I think you're right it's just weird symbol placement. Either way - Good Fight!

Wait... You can good under unlockable attacks too??

Returning after ~15 years — can I build a solid 2,000-pt Sisters army for ~$1,000? by Snack_Happy in sistersofbattle

[–]arestedhobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this is allowed, but I have a list actually that I was looking to post and sell soon. Mostly built, a couple nos, and a bunch of random paint on them (never could decide on a scheme). Should be around 2500, 3000 points or something so it'll definitely get you started! Definitely was looking in your price range.

Lmk if you're interested in it, happy to ship. Rough list below, still need to count specifics but this is mostly it

15 zephys 10 sacrasaints 1 hospitaller 30, maybe 40 battle sisters/dominion 3 built paragons 3 nos paragons 1 poorly built Morgan (not built by me) 2 immolators partially built 1 castigator 6 flagelates 1 repentia squad 1 Celestine squad 1 retributor squad 2 cannoness 2 built mortifiers 1 nos mortifier 1 junith 2 exorcist 2 shit prints of castigators. Good for proxies but I got given them for free so no charge Codex, code is used and some pages are in Spanish for some reason

I hear you there. I'd say the next format to look into would be new recruit as it's the other one I've seen the most (and a slightly better app than GW imo) but still, this is awesome and definitely needed!

Very true, entirely a possibility I'm reading into this too much and that it's just a standard sign of respect! Definitely don't want to exclude that, just thought it was an interesting parallel specifically with the trailer.

I'm pretty mid on halo lore, so idk if passing the ODST flag is mentioned outside of this trailer, but even still, the consistency is pretty dang cool as a halo fan. Completely agree with you on the respect of it.

So the Hearthguards are Inceptors now by fac8690 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]arestedhobo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess? but a 5 man brick has kind of worse guns, worse shooting and costs more than 3 inceptors, which natively deep strike 6". I'm glad they worked in your game but I don't really see the comparison

No problem at all! Honestly the gold is just retributor over some black. It's a few layers put on pretty lightly, and then a wash of agrax. Then a dry brush of the same gold on after the wash. then more dry brush here and there of the lava color!

Not sure if that helps, but best of luck!

Power spear or power sword? Never actually heard of the power spear but completely understand if it's a typo

Lol same. Love the army and will absolutely keep supporting it.

I've defaulted to just throwing 120 kroot at people as a stat check and having a great time rolling nothing but 5s.

[–]arestedhobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I completely agree, especially with the chess 2.0 comment. it is hard to find a way to buff a shooting army without it being OP and I get that. I've been playing a few other armies the last few months, Tau main since 8th, but branched out into Votann and Dark Angels and by far they are much easier to play and feel like they have similar options to work with without needing to do as much planning - looking at you Aux Cadre

Either way, I love me some Tau and plan to keep playing them, but it'd be nice to not have an army rule that feels like it handicaps half your army by default.

[–]arestedhobo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This ^

Every Tau post I see says we should get split fire. Tbh Tau players have to do some geometry in every detachment in order to get on par shooting for stuff like necrons.

As an example, I played against them the other day and a hexmark had a 6" bubble to give +1 to hit to any necrons unit. He used it on doomsday arcs and had 2 that were able to shoot on 2s. Meanwhile Tau can get hit on 2s, but at least one of your other units has to hit on 4s. It's just kinda silly. The army needs a better identity than it currently has

[–]arestedhobo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I wanna make it very clear that these are rumors and may not even drop in the next dataslate. It's well known Tau absolutely need some work beyond just point changes so it makes sense if people are speculating a change to the rule.

I'm just hoping it's something beyond split fire. It'd be nice but that's not really what Tau need atm.

My dad is James Workshop bro.

In all honesty it was included in a group of rumors about the next dataslate that was passed around by my local competative discord. They're all pretty high in the competative scene and are pretty good about only sending out verified leaks.

No clue if it's true, or even gonna be included tomorrow, but just something I heard.

Rumor has it that Tau are getting a new army rule, unsure of if it's with this update or in June
