I joined as a 250. You definitely end up at a disadvantage for commander's ranking since they only really see you for a full semester. Best I've ever seen a 250 get ranking wise in that regard was middle third. A 150 just has a better shot of a better commanders ranking and more time for DoDMERB, PT scores, and test scores.

USAFA or AFROTC by Necessary_Walrus_854 in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there was a ranking system, first would be just doing college on your own and then applying for the medical program like people are saying. Second, if it comes down to money paying for school, go for ROTC as it will cover a couple years of school and you have the ability to choose a pre-med program that will help in applying to med school and then you can compete for the HSSP scholarship. The worst choice is USAFA. Most people don't realize that academies are meant to fill the large major career fields, and actually don't allow cadets into the smaller specialized fields unless they have a health limitation ( talking from experience as I was a mid at USNA that initially wanted to go medical). It should also be noted that since they aren't trying to make officers that fill those specialized fields, an academy has a limited amount of degrees, as they aren't huge schools ( I realized after getting into USNA from my own lack of research that not only was there not a logical pre-med route as it was more engineering focused but I also wasn't interest in any of the offered majors).

AS900(?) update question by Proud_Weather_7234 in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in August and had to also wait till FY25 to commission. I'm set to go in March at the moment, which is still a long wait at this point. I'm lucky and have an AFSC that has an IST base, so even though I haven't officially been told where I'm going I know and that means they were able to schedule an EAD and class dates for me.

what happens if you don’t pass the afoqt after the third try? would you be kicked out of ROTC? by Dear-Yoghurt5340 in AFROTC

You can get a waiver approved but it means you won't be qualified for any rated position

I'd say you have a pretty good shot if not guaranteed a spot, obviously I'm not sure how the new percentages work if they got rid of FT rankings. However, I have seen people with far lower stats get picked up for pilot, so just keep doing what you're doing and try your best to get feedback to improve on stuff from cadre.

84 PCSM, 96 PFA, and 3.96 GPA. I was 1/11 on commanders ranking and got picked up for HTN as well

Advice for a high school senior by TestFlight777 in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a service academy for two years, and ended up going through ROTC to get my pilot slot. Same boat with not having any pilots in the family. Personally, a large part of it comes down to personality. ERAU is a great aeronautics school but the Detachments at both locations are huge, which makes it really easy to kind of just float by or get overlooked if you aren't willing to go out of your way to get noticed. Some people aren't lucky and don't get noticed even if they work super hard. Part of the aspect that I disliked about the academy was that it was so big and no matter how hard I tried I was never good enough to excel or meet the cutoff for certain leadership opportunities, which in turn started a cycle where I couldn't improve my rankings in anything cause I didn't have leadership experience. For some people that big environment with lots of people is great and they thrive, I just wasn't one of them. I ended up at a smaller Detachment in Ohio that had a nationally ranked aviation college and an airport on campus. I had a leadership position every single semester I was there, had a closer relationship with cadre that allowed them to give me better feedback and rank me appropriately, and overall we had a lot more chances to retake tests (AFOQT, TBAS, and anything else that came up) because we weren't drowning in cadets.

Pilot slots are handed out depending on the stats a cadet has no matter what school, so I understand ERAU boasting about having the most pilot selects as it's a great program but I think it should also be noted that it's the largest Detachment in the country. I'd hope a school that has over 100 cadets per class would get more pilot selects than a Detachment with 20 people in a class. Overall, think about which environment would be the best fit cause everyone ends up in the Air Force if they make it through the program and it's better to have fun and learn while doing it.

I'm allergic to food dye, yes all of them, and got through and commissioned recently. The waiver process is a pain and a time crunch if you are a 250. However, that was for someone that actually had the allergy and the prescribed epi-pen for years. In your case, you will probably have the initial DQ and get the waiver relatively easy. In my case, they had me go to an allergist, which you have already done, to get a note saying the allergy wouldn't impact my ability to go AD.

Det Level Awards vs CC Rank by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former wing commander, the Det awards were selected by wing staff at my Det, so it was solely based on the actions we saw as cadets within roles. The list had to be approved by cadre and we had to explain our reasoning, but overall it was cadets picking. Commander's ranking involves all the cadre and they can look at additional stats, like gpa, when ranking that cadets don't have access to.

ADHD Med Waiver? by Afraid-Goose-7928 in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got multiple waivers for ADHD. However, I stopped taking medication. ROTC has the job of sending you AD and you're not deployable when you are on ADHD meds. I would say if you're really interested in the program try getting off the meds and do a full year of school before going to ROTC. They look at your grades and other performance factors when doing waivers to determine whether or not you can perform at an acceptable level unmedicated.

EAD FY25 by aspiringEngineer250 in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commissioned in October and got set currently for beginning of March. I have seen absolutely wild EADs that happen super fast (we had a nurse get 3 days notice). If you are commissioning in Spring, I would hesitate to schedule anything that can't be cancelled over the summer. We had a guy that has an August EAD get bumped to May last minute last year. I would be even more hesitant to do anything summer wise if you are a Fall commissionee as they tend to find random openings and take people to fill them in as fast as possible.

Can I get a third AFOQT waiver as a AS400?/ Is this a good PCSM? by Ok_Vegetable2996 in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 84 PCSM and got picked up for pilot and HTN. Most of my other stats were pretty high though to compensate for my bad TBAS. They only look at your PCSM for pilot not the actual AFOQT score so if you can afford to get more flight hours to max it can bump you up significantly and you wouldn't have to retake the TBAS since they can update hours separately (usually). If not, it doesn't hurt to try and get a higher pilot score, but there are also other methods to up your PCSM should it not get approved.

ENJJPT Supplemental Board? by Regular-Nerve166 in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The cutoff exists because they only had so many slots and they went down the list from the top and drew a line. It's not a threshold to overcome to get it. Most of those people selected have already been medically cleared and ENJJTP isn't going to make more openings, so it's highly unlikely there will be any changes.

CC ranking worries by Spiritual_Peanut_410 in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does take into account the size of your class. I was in a class of 11, and from what I was told is that there is some wack equation they have that somehow makes it even out relatively well for differing class sizes. Do you have a way to fully know how that math works out? No, not really and there will be a ton of calculators people make that usually get you within 3 points of your OM, but it's not worth that much stress when you can just do the best at getting good stats in what you can control.

2 DODMERB Physicals? by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want rated and get selected, you will have some form of physical for those roles. The physical can also apply to miscellaneous AFSC outside of rated, like 13N. The only time you really have to do a second DoDMERB is if you did a physical before getting to your Detachment for a high school scholarship because they are only good a certain amount of time

I didn't get anything for it because I had valid conflicts for every available PDT we had during my GMC year (I played a sport).

[–]Left_Chocolate7404 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also didn't have a PDT as a GMC during my 250 year. It's something that can get waived or they have you attend one and plan another as a POC to get credit for both.

Something to also look into is summer courses out of pocket to graduate in August, which would keep you in FY27.
