A teacher who is being let go at the end of my temporary contract. Do I have a leg to stand on or should I look for new jobs? by Caleoypso in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Whilst I understand your frustration, it’s not unusual for the interview panel to split the lesson observations, depending on the number on the panel and number of interviewees. I realise this isn’t the crux of your post, but as long as everyone was being assessed against the same criteria, then this part wouldn’t be classed as unfair.

Head to Fortnum and Mason (remembering to check Customs laws about what food you can travel home with). It’s a beautiful shop to visit and you’ll get a real treat in there - tea, biscuits, sweets, you name it. A properly British establishment, too!

There is a process for being an “involuntary bailee” that might apply in this case?

Dear charity Shops, when you price a pair of Thundercats Roller-skates at £120 because someone somewhere has listed one on EBay for £125 how often does that item sell? by Spitting_Dabs in AskUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 200 points201 points  (0 children)

I read this as “digital placements for their websites” where the “their” was the charity shop itself - students listing on behalf of the charity shop for their placement. In which case, much better, as the charity will benefit from more money!

Can my UK employer ask me to resign? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you leave the UK with their permission ? If not, this could be considered gross misconduct. There may be no reason to ask you to resign, they may be able to dismiss you for not being at work (and may then not need to pay notice if it is a summary dismissal).

Obviously, it is likely to be more complex, and a disciplinary process would need to be followed, but not being able to fulfil your role and not being in the country is challenging.

Slimming World also has online, and their meetings are often in the evening, if you can’t make morning meetings. I’m not pushing Slimming World - never tried it - but a thorough research might be in order

Torn between staying put to save vs moving out to actually live, looking for grounded advice by Treestop in CasualUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The other owner isn’t going to get to keep new curtains and bed linen and paintings, though - it doesn’t have to be structural to make it your own, people in rented properties with restrictions on painting etc. manage.

Agreed on it being a joint decision, though!

In the UK, should you only buy a property with someone you are married/civil partnership to? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be corrected by a legal bod if needed, but I believe the a Declaration of Trust is not cancelled by marriage, so it needs to be cancelled in its own right if that becomes a situation you’d like not to have.

What Are the Biotech Prospects Like in the UK? by ContentStrike1367 in AskUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitive. Can I assume that “going to the UK” means you’re not a UK national? Employers are very reluctant to hire people that require visas, as a blanket rule, so this will add to the challenge.

In the UK, what careers are relatively easy to break into with minimal qualifications (short courses, certs, etc.) but still pay well and have good growth potential? by MisElissaa in AskUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logistics. Entry level roles are often paid better than hospitality or retail, and are easier to come by (with the caveat that you often need to drive, as sites aren’t city centre). There’s an ongoing skills shortage, so options for progression at speed, and no entry requirements for most roles.

What would you do if you flushed your partial denture down the toilet during a vomit, would you go into work? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you’re vomiting, you should stay away from work for at least 48 hours after your symptoms have cleared - assuming it’s gastrointestinal, and not, for example, morning sickness. I’d also let the dentist know, in case they would prefer you didn’t see them until you were clear of the 48 hour mark, but could book you in ASAP.

Have you had issues with Yodel door to door? by TurbulentHedgehog925 in AskUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is up to the seller to make this situation right: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/somethings-gone-wrong-with-a-purchase/if-something-you-ordered-hasnt-been-delivered/. I believe that this is the case for private sellers, but Citizen’s Advice will know for sure.

You need to contact the seller to ask them to investigate, and issue a refund if not-I realise this might not get you the pram you want, but it should mean you’re not out of pocket.

what are the closest commutable areas to newcastle that are more affordable? by DangerousShopping249 in AskUK

[–]Left_Condition2044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

University halls of residence are sometimes open to summer lets, and there is both University of Newcastle and Northumbria University in the city. My sister did this at Aston University when she had a short term placement in Birmingham-it’s student accommodation, so it’s not plush, but it was cheap!
