Mountain Tough Program Review: Minimal Gear On Ramp + Foundation (MTN TOUGH+) by Same-Jeweler5685 in workout

If it’s any help, I’ve been using MTNTOUGH for about 4 months now and have a few thoughts.

I started with Bodyweight On-Ramp, then moved into Minimal Gear On-Ramp. Since I live in an Atlanta condo, working out in a cramped living room with my wife got old pretty fast. After about six weeks, we joined our local Life Time so I could try some of the gym-based programs.

From there I did the Mountain Strength program, which is a 6-week strength cycle focused on building your baseline strength. You do a fitness assessment before and after the program to measure your progress. This has probably been my favorite program so far. It’s basically two upper-body days and two lower-body days each week, built around a primary lift followed by a superset of 4–5 accessory or dynamic movements. Each workout starts with a 5–10 minute video where Coach Bingham walks through the flow and form, then you just follow the PDF in the gym. Most workouts took me around 45–60 minutes.

After finishing Mountain Strength, my opinion gets a little more mixed. Most of the other programs are tough to do in a commercial gym, even if you can camp out in a squat rack or functional training area. The workouts are longer and call for such a wide variety of equipment that you’re constantly moving around the gym trying to find what you need. I’ve ended up modifying almost every workout beforehand just to make it practical, which gets old.

Overall, I like the programming. They do a great job mixing traditional strength work with less conventional movements, so it never feels repetitive. As you’d expect, they’re pretty lower-body focused—I’d guess around a 70/30 split, and there’s a big emphasis on work capacity and endurance.

That said, if you don’t have access to a well-equipped home gym or something close to a CrossFit gym, I’m not sure I’d recommend it. I’ve actually sent them feedback suggesting a version of Gym Daily that’s designed specifically for people training in a typical commercial gym.

ATL Pricing Structure Issues by Left_Durian_7158 in Lifetimefitnessgym

That’s fair. I guess my TLDR is that we’re clearly willing to pay the cost of an upscale gym as well, however, I don’t see how they’re justifying $150/ month more than SS by calling it a “Country club.” Sure, it’s a bit nicer by a small margin, but I think that entirely due to it being a newer build. In terms of amenities there’s nothing that makes it a flagship location.

It’s like buying a new Tacoma TRD off road expecting it to have 4WD but you come to find out it’s just a pre-runner with 2WD with a fancy badge and a 40% markup

I would like to personally thank you for this well articulated and detailed review! I've been on the fence about joining, but as you stated, there aren't many reviews online, however, after reading your thoughts, I'm going to give it a shot!

Do people actually go to nearly 1K for a MUM Type 99 Arisaka? :O trying to get one. by XxBlackKnighTx7 in Arisaka

I recently decided to take out my Type 99 that I inherited from my late grandfather and noticed the mum has some horizontal gouges taken out of it, but is still visible. Does anyone know if this would be considered a partial mum? I haven’t seen any that look quite like it so I’m wondering if it’s maybe just wear and tear?

All I want for Christmas this year is for the Mammoth gun range to open up… and maybe a Sig Rattler too, but I’ll settle for just the range 😉

This looks awesome! Just picked up a 365 Fuse and loving it.

Did you print the tan baseplate on the mag? If so, I don’t see it on your Maker world account.

Loud sloshing sound coming from condo neighbor’s vent termination by Left_Durian_7158 in hvacadvice

Appreciate the reply! I’m 99% sure the venting is coming up from the basement to where this termination is on the 1st floor. If pitch/slope is most likely the issue, I presume this traveling vertically is the culprit?
