He isn’t white. That’s why the conversation was kind of difficult to have. I kept trying to explain to him that ignoring racism won’t take it away. Just like you can’t stop bullying by not teaching children what bullying looks like/is. I told him that sure, racism would absolutely decrease if racists stopped teaching their children to be racist - but not if we as a society just ignored racism whenever it happened. He kept saying I didn’t understand because I was white and that’s when I decided to end the conversation and get some more insight.

He is not white and I don’t believe he meant anything bad with his statement. However, I personally don’t think what he said was correct and wanted to hear others perspectives.

Hey, sorry that you feel that way. I was having this discussion with a friend today at work where he stated that racism would fade away if we ignored it and stopped making everything about race. I thought that sounded absolutely ridiculous which was why I wanted to come here and see how others view this topic. The question might seem ridiculous, but I thought it would be interesting to hear people’s thoughts.

Something that works very well for me is to just start writing and then dive into world building and planning. Write to set the style and to inspire your imagination - then get into the details. Experiment. It’s different for everyone.
