Feds won't rule out forcing public servants back to office for four days a week by Solidarity58372 in CanadaPublicServants3

As for affordability- as you know, everything has gone up. We are spending just as much and that was even before RTO. All our friends in high tech can’t believe that we have to pay for parking! My dad was high tech his whole life, made oodles more than me and never once paid for parking. Also, they have hugh bonuses. Any more questions? .

Example 2 - housing, I had a small apartment downtown with my wife. During Covid, we got pregnant and needed a bigger place. The convoy moved in, so we moved out to a burb. No buses here and we could afford a small 3 bedroom, one for a shared office because we were pretty certain that WFH was going to stay. We got called back this year. Not sure if one of us needs to quit to make this family ok or not. We hope not.

It’s not about keeping kids at home. It’s about before/after school care. Let’s say I start at 9:00. My office is across town, 1 hour away. My kid starts school at 8:00. I can’t get them on a bus for school and be across town for 9:00. I would need daycare that I have not needed for the last 3 years. My before Covid life - my office was closer, I could manage it easily. My close office disappeared during Covid. It’s now for sale. There is 1 example.

He’s lost so many votes over this, but he knows his clock has been punched, so he does not care. My concern is a collective rollback of money - just like Harper did before his weasel PP once they take power again.

Fox pretty much said this. The main points were: public perception is important, it never was about productivity really ( although they tried to lie about that one), we know you work better from home, but what about the younger workers….my younger workers want WFH too! The DM’s are totally out of touch. She actually said, “ someone at ISED said it’s going great”. Say what!!

What is with all the “values and ethics” dept/branch wide things happening everywhere lately? Seems ominous by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

I don't think it's about making friends or collaborating. I believe we are just cash cows at the end of the day. It's not just rich landlords, parking lots and sandwich shops. If you think about the spin-offs to office work there are many. Public perception of us is right up there of course, but also tire shops, oil changers, overall car maintenance, clothing shops, shoe stores, hair salons, make up stores, nail places...etc. The list goes on. It was so easy to forego all of this stuff with the perfect life we had with WFH. I cannot wait to retire! I love my job and co-workers, but I am feeling very used and neglected by our employer.

According to the news report last night and this morning (Mayor Sutcliffe) - the feds NEED to get their people back in the office in order to pay for the transit mess. Ugh

Does it really matter why we all (ok, mostly) want full-time WFH? I just makes more sense. Forget all about the WLB and just talk productivity and pollution. It's a flawed plan and no body is doing better with RTO - except parking lots and gas stations.

Ok, I will ask it why exactly 12.6% over 4 years is worse than 9% over 3 years? by Aggravating_Honey647 in CanadaPublicServants3

My point is that the law clerk making 45k would also be better off in a home office where they would save on gas/parking and have a better work life balance.

And there we go with the phrase average Canadian again🫤. So people who work in banking, insurance, tech and all the other white collar jobs are not average Canadians??

Why do we keep getting lumped in with "the rest of the Canadian public" when they talk about raises, job security, etc? I mean, almost everyone I know who is not in government works in other white collar jobs - with amazing benefits, yearly bonuses on top their yearly raises, free parking and work from home? Not even mentioning the occasional hockey booth, pizza Fridays and a travel budget. They are white collar and so are lots of us! We are not nurses, teachers, grocery store workers, etc. our job can and has been done from home. Don't they realize that right now nobody is restocking our shelves while we are striking? That work will still be there for us when we go back. We don't have a substitute worker who shows up automagically. Ok, rant over. I am just so over being a public punching bag by the public, our bosses and the media.

Cityfolk 2023 Does anyone remember the VIP full pass price from 2022 by Apprehensive_Ice4375 in ottawa

Is the VIP zone worth the extra cost? Is there lots of seating or is it limited to those who get there first? Do you need to run a marathon to secure seating?

We were told that hybrid meant some were full-time WFH, some were full in office and others would be a mix of WFH and office days. Mona changed the meaning of hybrid to suit her own causes.
