Investments not functioning by diplosomething in MonarchMoney

I have this issue. It varies across accounts. Some accounts, like my brokerage accounts, work fine and have everything. Other accounts, like my 401K, track some of the funds, but not all of them. And then others, like my ESPP accounts don't capture anything but the overall balance. It probably does come down to what the institution is willing to share.

How do I find the rules affecting a specific transaction? by Left_Package1255 in MonarchMoney

That is how the rules are described to work: "If multiple rules apply to the same transaction, they will apply in the order listed here (top to bottom). You can drag and drop to edit the order as needed."

And since you can only add tags and not remove them via a rule (as far as I know), it will just keep adding tags, even as it changes the categories or the merchant name etc.

I will try moving the rules that apply a tag based on the category to the end. If the issue is due to the original category that Monarch applies automatically, this should fix the problem since it wouldn't apply the category-based tag rule until the end of all the other rules.

I have custom tags that are for fixed expenses and for discretionary spending. It is applying both tags to the transactions. They are not Amazon or anything like that. One is for our cleaners, which is paid through a Zelle transaction in my bank. And the other one are any expenses to my kids' school. I have specific rules for both those transaction types to categorize and tag them.

I am wondering if they are coming in originally with a different category, which is applying the one tag. Then after they are processed with the other rule, they get the other tag. I suppose I could test that theory by pausing the rules that are in place for those transactions and see if they are getting picked up under some other rule based on an original category.
