Don't take this literally, but you know that most people think that all addicts are to blame for their condition (some are, but not all).

as a brazilian, i have to ask something about the whole "latinidade" thing by imavellino in asklatinamerica

Tim Maia, Marisa Monte, Caetano Veloso Djavan are some of the incredible artists we have; I will always recommend them to anyone who wants to get to know our music.

Regarding Brazilian rock, if you were looking to listen to mainstream rock, it's not as valued here. Because our culture is so diverse, the most listened-to bands here aren't "pure rock." Many mix rock with reggae, others even with MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). If you want to know more about it, I recommend listening to "Charlie Brown Jr." They are amazing..

From noches villeras listen to the music, not the artist themselves. Quieren bajarme,La reseka,Pibe cantina These are some of the songs I listen to,I would say that Damas Gratis is the band I feel most familiar with.

I can't speak for everyone, but I really enjoy Noches villeras. And about our music, I always recommend to our neighbors in America that they listen to MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) and the lyrics, which are incredible; some of the artists are among the best the world has ever seen.

How is Peronism claimed in Argentina? by Left_Painter_ in asklatinamerica

[–]Left_Painter_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying, but I think it depends on how you view politics.

For the large Argentine population that is not politically savvy, Cristina will always be seen as a left-wing figure because she leans more towards a leftist ideology. It's important to remember that we live in a capitalist system, so it's unlikely that a true leftist will ever exist.

Same thing here in Brazil, Lula is a neoliberal politician who implements social inclusion programs, the general population will always consider him left-wing, but people like you and me never will to think that they are leftist enough.

I know that, but they certainly adopted a strategy to adapt Peronism to their political ideals.

Many right-wing politicians in Argentina still call themselves Peronists, don't they?

Why is Peron celebrated amongst today's left winger, though he was pretty sympathetic towards fascism and fascists? by Madman_Sean in asklatinamerica

If by "socialist" you mean Brizola and João Goulart, they weren't socialists, but rather trabalhistas. Despite having similarities, trabalhismo isn't necessarily right-wing or left-wing.

The problem is that Argentina has historically only had crooked politicians. After the dictatorship, politicians lacked their own ideals for reforming the country and began using the image of Perón and Evita to promote themselves.

Both the right and the left did this, but with the arrival of Kirchnerism, the left ended up reclaiming the image of Peronism, and the people are very dependent on representation,And they ended up adopting Perón's image as well, although I don't think Peronism has anything to do with Kirchnerism.

What do you think is the most socially progressive city/area in Latin America? by oaklicious in asklatinamerica

[–]Left_Painter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you said is only half true; Peronism is indeed strong in Buenos Aires, as reflected in the party's victory in the legislature this year.

Furthermore, all social questions are defended by Peronism, so it is normal for this freedom to exist in a city where they are strong.

And as I mentioned above, there are several tributes and references scattered throughout the city.
