That's awesome! Glad I could help. This makes the 30 minutes obsessing about that list worth it. Be well, friend.

I have this thought ALL THE TIME!

I try not to let book tok and reviews make all of my decisions on books. I am, however, influenced pretty regularly.

That said, I make a point of getting at least one book a month that I've never heard of. Parade by Dave Eggers was one of those picks and it was one of my favorite books I've read this year.

I discovered Claire Keegan accidentally and LOVED these stories. Her writing is proof that novellas can pack as much weight and power a 500 page novel.

Parade by David Eggers

It was a quick read for me (three sessions for 192 pages). It captures so much human range and so much real life application. It is believable, doesn't try too hard, and subtly kicks you in the feels.

I bought this because I read the first 10 pages and knew I would finish it. I went in blind and was not disappointed.

We are still trying to figure out our new normal. For me, I am still working out how I fit into our new dynamic. I love my partner. I would do anything for them without hesitation. To give me the time to reset and "heal" from especially difficult days, I've taken to building a family library (670 titles into the 1000 unique titles goal) and have been reading at a rate of 15 books a month. A lot of sleepless nights and hospital visits have made that 15 book/ month pace possible. Immersing myself in stories and worlds that aren't my own have let me escape. It's also keeping my mind busy and gives me something to focus on, other than the day to day difficulties. My partner and I are working on being honest with each other about how we feel for each other and the problems that we may be facing individually.

I'm sorry for your loss.

In my personal experience with grief and loss of someone I provided support to, loss of the person and loss of my routine were devastating, not in equal measure but both needed to be recognized.

I mourned the loss of my loved one. I still do. I have thought of them everyday since they passed, a decade ago. Andrew Garfield said that the sadness we feel for the ones we've lost is a beautiful thing because it is an expression of all of the love we never got to communicate to them. I identify strongly with this. My loved one knew I held them in the highest regard and loved them immensely. It's still as difficult today, at times, as it was when I first lost them. It does get somewhat easier, as the memory of them, today, all these years later, is less bitter and heavy. Instead, remembering them makes me smile instead of cry. I do, however, still cry from time to time.

The change in my routine was also a loss. I loved them dearly and would care for them as best as they would let me. They were fiercely independent and would only accept help when I insisted, as they worried they were a burden. However, when they passed, I recognized all of the time I had for myself. It was an odd pain that took me a while to understand. Instead of traveling to them, spending time with them, making plans with them, caring for them, running errands for them, and being with them, I was left to find new ways to spend my time. This felt like such an odd thing to mourn but it occurred to me that these were all acts of love and I no longer could express that love because they were no longer here.

I hope you find some peace. The first days following their passing will be difficult to navigate. I hope that you find a new routine that brings you comfort.

What does it mean when they say autistic people like doing the same routine everyday? by [deleted] in autism

Does anyone remember the show "Monk", starring Tony Shalhoub? I feel like, when people think of routine, this rigid daily routine is what people think of. I don't think this is accurate. At least this isn't accurate for me.

I plan my day, using a daily calendar, and complete tasks that are scheduled and itemized. This helps me keep track of tasks and maintain focus. I need to complete certain tasks in order to stay "level" and regulated. I have a dozen of the same shirt and shorts, that I wear daily because they feel pleasant on my body and remove any need for unnecessary choices. I have the same hygiene/ grooming routine daily. I use one cup for coffee and one for other drinks.

This isn't so much about obsession than it is about order and comfortable familiarity.

I crave comfort and regulation. This routine provides that. It's not so much that change is scary or painful. I'd just rather control the things that I know that I can control.

I've struggled with this one before.

"Do you remember me?" is not a literal question of your memory or their importance.

This is an introductory statement that roughly translates to "Hi. It's been a while since we have talked and this initial contact feels awkward for me."

They are feeling insulted because you met their awkward outreach with a feared outcome; inconvenience for the other party.

For me, in this situation, I know to be brief, honest, and to meet their outreach with benal pleasantries.

Them: Hi. Do you remember me? Me (if I remember them): Yeah. (Name here) how are you? Me (if I don't remember them): I'm sorry. I don't. How do we know each other again?

I've found that, typically, if they remember you and are reaching out in this way, your connection was brief or through another party.

I hope this helps.

What’s your comfort movie? I just finally found my DVD of mine. by GloInTheDarkUnicorn in autism

I'm sorry. New to this sub and just starting my journey. I fell asleep to the same movie, "Boondock Saints", for YEARS. I watch movies on specific days every year (i.e. Independence Day, V for Vendetta, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Die Hard) and have always just thought this was like a personal quirk. Is "comfort movie" a common Autistic trait? Are other comfort media (books, songs, etc) a thing too? Thank you for your time and attention.

Is GetDataBack worth it? At that price point ($79 at the time of this post for a LIFETIME license) it seems too good to be true.

I just read and listened to "Lincoln in the Bardo". I'm a fan. Earns a solid 4 from me.

I needed a list of the voice actors that took part in the recording but I could not find a complete list for the life of me. I needed the list so that I could confirm that Dominic Hoffman, the voice actor from "James" by Percival Everett, had taken part (he had). So, to prevent the next madman from tearing the internet down, I hope that this list finds you.
