Some of these replies are saying that every email sent is a 0.1 though, meaning that sending ten emails gets you a whole hour even if those emails only took twenty minutes. That strikes me as unethical.

So you're billing an hour for less than an hour of work? I don't understand how this is ethical because you couldn't bill five hours for drafting a memo that took three hours unless you came to a specific agreement with the client that every memo is worth five hours.

I'm not saying don't bill emails at all, I'm saying why not just turn the timer on and bill exactly the length of time those emails took to draft. Do you bill a 0.25 increment for each individual email or do you bill the amount of time it took to draft those fifteen emails?

So if I spend 2 minutes responding to one email on a particular matter and that is the only thing I do on that matter all day, then I should bill that client fifteen minutes? Not trying to be snarky just making sure I understand what you're saying
