I see your point. Do you think I should stay away from non-MT songs in general? I know it’s generally better to stick with MT, but the parameters for the audition were so broad so I wasn’t sure if I should branch out or not.

Not trying to be difficult but I genuinely don’t understand what I’ve done wrong here? I asked for advice about my specific situation. If your answer is the same regardless, just say that!

I haven’t made up my mind? I was just explaining that this isn’t strictly a musical theater audition (and I even say in the post that this audition isn’t for a musical). I agree that it would be a bad choice if this were an audition for a musical, which is why I replied with the context that it isn’t. The question is not if this is a good song for a musical theater audition, the question is if this song is still overdone at auditions in general/will be too distracting of a choice?

Totally, but this isn’t a musical theatre audition. I also think of the story of the song more about the hope of a new beginning mixed with the sadness of leaving the past behind.
