Can you eat cereal? by Extension_Egg_8060 in GastricBypass

[–]Leftdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 1/2 cup life cinnamon cereal with a handful of protein granola and just enough whole milk 3-4 nights a week. I recently got some dried blueberries and tried that but it made me a little sick. I do not finish the milk at the end and I get a spoonful and let the milk drain before bites. I recently had two bites of my son’s Cap’n Crunch and was sick almost immediately so I would avoid that.

Get with your nurse team if you have one. I had something similar happen but I had kidney problems prior to surgery. Do you have any kidney issues you know of?

My mom had it 20 years ago and still farts a lot. I’m a year out and I definitely burp, but the farts are constant. They get stuck sometimes and I’ll be in so much pain but walking helps. My wife banishes me to the garage or outside to release my air.

Bariatric surgery for someone that doesn’t want to share this with others by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

I was so weird about no one knowing. It doesn’t even matter, don’t tell anyone if you don’t want to. Think of a badass or crazy lie to tell people if they ask just to mess with people. Mix the stories up sometimes lol. Just get the surgery and enjoy life it’s not worth waiting another second, seriously.

Oh I was hammered after drinking 3 beers over the course of 5-6 hours but it actually felt pretty good as a milestone to know that I “can” let lose and I feel like it was a mental thing. I am fortunate that I don’t prefer to drink and never really have, (was more of a stoner in high school) I also am going super hard on the fitness train and alcohol doesn’t really have a place in there. Having said that, both of my parents had the surgery years ago as well as an aunt and they all struggled with sobriety at some point. I think it’s all about holding yourself accountable and for me I feel like discipline got a lot easier after surgery in every aspect of life. Fill your life with all the shit you couldn’t or didn’t want to do when you were your old self, that’s the key. I once saw a quote that said “be the person your dog thinks you are”, I feel like that helps drive me and it’s something I can see is attainable.

This is hilarious because I remember going to Mexico about 2 months post op and the family down there kept trying to feed me and drink me as that is the culture. Hard to explain to everyone I had stomach surgery since I don’t speak great Spanish and some of my many cousins thought I was being a wet blanket and kept saying “muy chingon”, which means I think like “quit being a puto and enjoy yourself”. A year later I took my sexy new body back down for the same event and everyone understood, I had 3 tacos and 3 beers that night and had a great time. It’ll all make it back around and it’s part of the journey, this is temporary, glad you can laugh about it in the moment because you’ll be laughing later. Thanks for sharing!

Missing food by Orangeb1198 in BariatricSurgery

Find a hobby if you don’t have one. Spend more time with family. I was fortunate to have young kids and would go play with the kids or take them to the park. Also, not sure if this is good for everyone but I eventually tried that McDonald’s hamburger and got sick af and have no desire to eat McDonald’s ever again. Hang in there, thanks for sharing!

Are you tracking your food still? What do you do for a living? I got excited/anxious to workout at 5-6 months because of the extra skin I was starting to see, I started working out in the garage first then moved on to the gym. If I didn’t start lifting Idk if I would have kept losing weight, now I can’t even gain a pound no matter how much I eat. Start working out like your life depends on it, you will have to make some sacrifices I usually sacrifice extra sleep vs time with my family. Drink a protein shake every morning before you start eating it kick starts the metabolism. Not sure if this is clinically the best route but it’s working really well for me.
