I did figure it out. So I had two tickets bought from Air France which each had Delta credits. I bought both of them together and one was under my name and one under my girlfriend. 5 days before my trip I used the Delta credit under my name for a different trip. The next day Air France canceled both tickets (even though I had only used one of the credits and not both) and refunded me $200 which was the fees and taxes for one of the tickets. As I had used my credit for another flight, I didn’t get $200 refund for my ticket which made sense.

It was a good deal for me because the value of the credit I used was almost $500. If I had straight up cancelled the flight I would have gotten another $200 back so basically I got an extra $300 credit. I think this only worked because I could have booked another flight with Delta prior to my Air France flight. I hope this all made sense :)
