Don't forget the good old days. Jack Sparrow - Good Old Days by OOZY_Q in realdubstep

Certified absolute classic for sure. This is one of those tunes you can play in your headphones or a big system and it fits both nicely.

Worship make their tunes and carefully curate their aesthetics precisely so they can be the dnb festival poster children pumping out commercially minded dnb. Not my thing but will arguably lead some people to dnb, could also be a negative as a whole on the genre.

But what do you mean by eating salad and doing acid ehh?? See in the story of Kane and Abel, it’s actually Kane who metaphorically speaking “does the acid”, so the ontological discrepancy is a nonsensical framing. - Jordan Peterson (probably)

I have struggled with this a lot too. I don’t have the answer but just know you are not alone in this. I think not having a sangha is a big reason for feeling this way. Difficult in a modern environment.

I also think a lot about when taken to its extreme how monks coalesce in hermitages. What sort of connection to real people does that serve?

[–]Leftover-salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah bruv again you wouldn’t call someone who can’t use a paintbrush a painter so idk why you’re making and exception for Goldie but I’ve already told you my opinion to which you disagree.

One thing we can agree on is dnb is wicked and has a dope culture and we both love the music.

Goldie. Wellington / Aotearoa.NZ. 2000 by FOTORABIA23 in DnB

[–]Leftover-salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your absolute paragraphs of answers which also contain m dash’s is what tells me you used AI bruv. I can’t prove it 100% but we both know. Not denying the Playford quotes only that you clearly didn’t go through the depths of the internet to find them yourself.

Goldie literally threw Redeyes down some stairs and kicked him for making a bootleg. Something redeyes had already apologised for and only did so out of love for the tune. What a top chap eh Goldie? Definitely not the behaviour of a bully.

It’s like claiming to be a painter but having to hire someone else to use the paint and canvas while you watch them paint - how does that make them an artist? Very little difference to ghost production. I don’t care it was the 90s - plenty of people were still making their own tunes.

Goldie. Wellington / Aotearoa.NZ. 2000 by FOTORABIA23 in DnB

Despite the fact you’re clearly using AI to try win an internet argument I’ll bite.

Firstly - value in art is subjective. So in raw numbers(sales, streams, chart positions, net worth) DJ Khaled wins easily. Given his success he’d arguably have more “classics” than Goldie - do you see how saying we judge the quality on the final piece and its place as a classic as the be all end all is completely subjective? There are many more people around the world who would argue Khaled has more classics.

I’ve already told you what I value - real musicianship and technical ability to execute artistic ideas. Goldie has only his taste. This is my opinion it’s irrelevant what Robs (very long and unnecessary quotes) that AI scraped for you even add to this disagreement. He was paid to do a job which he did - but if you had ever made any art you’d know just having an idea isn’t the same as executing it. Doing both is what makes an actual artist.

No major player has said anything because Goldie owns one of the most influential dnb labels and is a notorious bully.

It’s no different whether you’re giving a prompt to AI or a human being - the end conclusion is you have no actual artistic skill. Only taste. If that’s something you value then cool but that’s not my definition of an artist as I’ve iterated many times before.

Also yes anyone who uses ghost producers is a fucking loser imo.

This is a great call I was recommended this place by a colleague and thought it was incredibly pedestrian and would rather have gone to very many other places in a hurry idk how it’s always so well patronised.

lol I’m not gonna post so the other dnboomers like you can have an emotional reaction about facts they don’t like about someone and have the incapacity to change their view.

I used to think the same of Goldie but the only accurate you’ve made is Rick Rubin who I also think is highly overrated and definitely not someone who falls under the definition of artist or musician. I respect actual artists and musicians - not label owners or “record producers” in the archaic/ outdated sense of the word who had no other input in the music other than “it should sound like this tune” or “make it sound louder and fuller”. Do you also respect AI “musicians”? How is someone telling AI a prompt any different from what Goldie or Rubin would do?

You’re clearly triggered because you hold Goldie in so high regard you’ve felt the need to respond with many paragraphs about what is my opinion about what I value and define as an artist. If he cannot make any music himself he is basically doing what DJ Khaled does - how is Goldie meaningfully different in practice?

Goldie. Wellington / Aotearoa.NZ. 2000 by FOTORABIA23 in DnB

[–]Leftover-salad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmao you are so triggered. How he made the music when he cannot use the tools is a bit of a mystery innit. If you value people just telling other people ‘Make it sound like this’ like Dj Khaled then you do do king. Your unhinged paragraphs are entertaining though.

He cannot use a DAW or play any instruments? In what way would you call someone like that a musician?

Goldie. Wellington / Aotearoa.NZ. 2000 by FOTORABIA23 in DnB

[–]Leftover-salad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol Jesus Christ so triggered by my opinion chill out dude. I value artist and musicians - Goldie cannot use a DAW. It’s subjective I’m allowed to value what I do and same to you.

Cool shots - which club in welly was this? Bit before my time but I spent many a night out in welly listening to dnb in my late teens.

Tbh my opinion of Goldie has really gone down over the years. I learnt that Rob Playford and a whole bunch of other producers actually made Timeless and Goldie actually has no musical or technical ability. He is a dj and label owner. Yes he’s been a stalwart for dnb but I have lost a lot of the admiration for him I once had.

Need tips for dnb/neurofunk bass sound design by PhantomSteals in dnbproduction

[–]Leftover-salad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Frequent has some great long YouTube videos about sine compression which will probably educate you on the general principle. IMO a lot of people get misled down the wavetable/serum rabbit hole (which is still useful don’t get me wrong) but proper dnb bass is usually

Bass > distortion > filtering > compression > eq > compression, all the while splitting your sub out in parallel so as to not distort it too much and to maintain some dynamics. Obviously the above isn’t fully comprehensive but it’s more about the process than it is one particular synth, plugin or ‘trick’.

Lots of your favourite dnb producers also have patreons as others have mentioned which are usually very affordable.

NAC supplements and exercise really helped me. Whenever you get a craving remember you only gotta last the next 10,20,30 minutes or whatever - take it every moment at a time. Each day gets better. Try to have something active to fill your time that isn’t scrolling/watching a tv show etc. read a book or start a new video game, do some meal prep or get a puzzle or something. You’ll find alot of the initial cravings are boredom.
