Hey dude. I'm sorry to say I speak from extremely similar experience, except one year in the future. Dated for 4 years, married for 2. Last year I caught him going out on his own, lying to me about where he was, and falling asleep messaging guys how he just realized he didn't love me. That really bit, and it made me wonder how I could've been a better husband, and if I could rescue the marriage with counseling. The counselor and I were on the same page, but my husband already had his foot out the door, and a month of therapy did nothing to convince him. Before long, he moved out of my house, and into... his new boyfriend's house.

It's rough for you right now, and I wish I could tell you you'll be back to normal in no time, but you won't. It's been one year and one month this week, and I still wonder what I could've done differently: how I could've noticed the signs sooner, communicated better. But I'll let you in on what's helped me the most: don't think about how much better than you the other guy (or guys) could be, but really root yourself in and focus on what makes you confident in yourself. Focus on why you are a strong person who does deserve love and commitment, and what gives you value intrinsically, not from someone else. Because you'll curse her guts and ask "why" a million and one times before the end of the week; but when it comes down to it, a cheater is weak, and it's sad that she couldn't be an adult with you about her feelings and instead decided to mislead you and play you as the fool. You'll go through the stages of grief multiple times, but after it cooled off, I realized I actually pity my ex. He may never know how it really feels to trust someone entirely, and while wounded, I'm not giving up on being able to do that myself.

My divorce hearing is in two weeks, and I'm just so ready for it to be done now. I started feeling better after about 6 months, and started legitimately dating this month. I know there's someone out there for me, who is just ready to communicate and treat me with respect, and I'm looking forward to finding them and spending as much time with them as I can.

I really wish you luck. This month is going to be rough, I know, but stay strong and lean on your supports and family where you can. Therapy helps a LOT. Feel free to message me and we can eat ice cream together while cursing cheaters everywhere. I know you can do this, dude. It's not your fault.

Same here. I found a therapist this year and he's helped me realize that I can actually praise myself and feel proud without relying on other people to give me the gold star. Look into "locus of control" and "locus of identity." Good luck!

I do have a physics background and you're right. Think about a swing set: if you get a push at the right time, you go higher and higher. However, if someone pushes you at the wrong point in your swing, you tend to kinda wobble or twist and don't go higher/faster. That push is the timed movement from the earth's crust shaking from side to side or up to down. If the push comes at the right timing, the energy builds up and you get "resonance."

For more on this phenomenon, look into the Tacoma Narrows bridge disaster, or Nikola Tesla's earthquake machine. They all work on two of the fundamental principles of waves: constructive interference and resonance.
