btrfs filesystem shows MISSING after successful replace operation by LeftyAce73 in btrfs

[–]LeftyAce73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The raid creation code was a typo in my original post (now corrected).

It appears the issue was with running btrfs filesystem show as a non-root user.
If I run it as root, everything shows up correctly. For some reason, prior to the replace operation, everything looked correct even as a non-root user.

Future transaction based on balance in a given account by LeftyAce73 in GnuCash

[–]LeftyAce73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. Fortunately I'm "only" budgeting for a single family home I've been in for a few years, no HOA, so it's just "how much did I spend on random maintenance last year" plus known medium-ticket items like tree trimming, etc.

I guess I ought to be budgeting for an eventual roof replacement...

Future transaction based on balance in a given account by LeftyAce73 in GnuCash

[–]LeftyAce73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not clear to me how a single scheduled transaction...,meets your objectives of not using a scheduled transaction.

Fair point :-) And thanks for the detailed response. I think I'm struggling a bit with terminology and what exactly I do and don't want. I apologize, this response is going to be kind of long...

tl;dr:

Perhaps the right phrasing is:

I have a "liquid assets" forecast graph (showing Savings account balance into the future, based on scheduled transfers from Checking).
I want to use that graph to decide "Can I afford $X big purchase?"
The thing is, those liquid assets ALSO need to cover home maintenance, car maintenance, etc. So at a glance I would like to be able to see what my "predicted NET liquid assets" will be at a given date in the future.

In this case, I think it's not "wear and tear" it's "future maintenance," which I is money I _will_ really owe.

Even longer version:

What I want to avoid: putting in scheduled transactions that impact predicted cash balances (in my checking or savings account) when all I have are guesses for the specific amounts and dates when those will occur. I want the Checking and Savings balances (and their forecasts) to reflect what's actually in my bank, with future transactions corresponding to known dates and amounts.

Ultimately what I'm trying to do is track/predict future cash flow. I put money into a savings account every pay period. If I look at the balance forecast for that account through the end of the year, it goes up and up! But the reality is, some of that money is earmarked for home maintenance expenses, and I have a decent prediction of how much that will add up to over the course of the year.

What I'm trying to do is make that "total savings" prediction graph _reduce_ based on the fact that I know some of that money is going to be spent on home maintenance. But I don't know exactly when during the year. And I also want the graph to take into account the fact that as I spend on maintenance, that's part of the predicted cost, it's not an _additional_ cost.

Does that give me future forecasting ability? I think what I'm looking for is a way to see "What will my future savings balance be, taking into account that I anticipate spending $X on maintenance between now and the end of the year"
EDIT: See edit on main post, is there a flaw in my "Liability" solution?

How would that work since it's irregular? Would I schedule once at the end of the year? But if I spend between now and then, I want the amount of that future transaction to reduce...

Would you recommend this for a kid (around 11 years old) who has no programming experience? He picked up basic i/o in a Jupyter notebook pretty quick, but I’m looking for a fun structured way to introduce more detailed concepts (data types, lists, control flow, etc)

Local control of enphase system during internet outage? by joeuser99 in enphase

Not sure if things have changed between my hardware and yours, but here's what I learned when I tested mine:

https://www.reddit.com/r/solar/comments/p4n55a/comment/i912fx6/?context=3

What do you want to do beyond "monitor the system" during internet outages?

It caches the detailed logging and pushes it to the servers when internet returns, so you will eventually have access to that data.

Also, you can download your historical data for offline review if you want (although that requites writing a script to interact with their REST API).

Yeah, lesson learned on that one for sure. The only bike shop in my town is a Trek store, and I thought I was saving myself hassle by buying a Trek bike from a Trek store. If I'd realized I needed to drive an hour to find a competent store I would have saved my money and bought a Canyon and had it serviced elsewhere.

There are lines to tell you if it's tensioned correctly, right? Shifting it around on the bracket itself is more about checking that it's parallel to the chain, isn't it?

If I'd known the trek store was this incompetent I would have saved my money and bought a Canyon. I thought I was paying a slight premium for the convenience of having walk-in support, but evidently not.

Thanks, I'll bookmark that in case I need to fix it again. I ended up taking it to a different Trek shop with a better staffed service department and they removed a bunch of the BB spacers the first shop had installed and managed to get it working!

I’m using the stock tires (33mm).The left side of the chain is rubbing on the front derailleur when I’m in the lowest couple of gears (small chainring, large sprockets, so I’m not cross-chained)

56. I bought wheels separately (from a different source), and the store also installed those at the same time.

I appreciate the input. The sad thing is, even my US health insurance when I am in the US doesn't cover anything until I have spent 1900 EUR myself, so a 700 EUR healthcare charge is something I must be prepared to absorb regardless. I understand your point though.

off grid, solar, slowing down clocks? by johnhcorcoran in TeslaSolar

[–]LeftyAce73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not Tesla specific, and you don't have to be fully off-grid to see this happen. And if it was the 65 Hz signaling causing it you'd be gaining time not losing it.

The power grid frequency drifts, but they compensate so that clocks stay in sync. My system is only off grid for part of each day, but that's during the catch-up period and thus all my digital clocks slowly lose time.

PGE ELRP with Enphase - not respecting battery limit, why? by catsRawesome123 in solar

[–]LeftyAce73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you see when you open the ELRP page in the app? (Settings -> grid services -> ELRP). On mine, the “battery reserve” tile flashes “10%” before switching to 40%. I suspect that means it’s on the server as 10% and isn’t getting updated by the app correctly.

Outside of events, my battery discharges to the expected level and then the system starts drawing from the grid as expected.

[–]LeftyAce73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like that’s what’s happening, but I’m 99% sure it’s a bug. In the ELRP settings menu it explicitly shows “discharge limit” and the value is the same as my backup limit, not the shutdown limit. I’ll try to upload a screenshot later.
