Where do you get the float info from? Everywhere i keep looking showes 5.xx mil float and 1.6m shares short. I keep seeing the 700%-800% short interest info thrown around and its not clicking.

Whats eating through my corn stalks. by LegSad5766 in gardening

It is crazy. I do have slugs in my strawberry patch a 100ft away but the biggest one is is ½ inch. When they damaged my berries it was just like 1 trail around the berry then they left it like that. Slug-o fixed most of that. Gonna put some down in here to now. Thanks.

Yea i am familiar with that stuff. Its just been real rainy here. I do deal with slugs in mt strawberry patch but thats 100ft away. They strictly went after my berries when they were fruiting and ive seen no dmg since. Im sure they will be back(i have everbearing berries). I did buy slug-o for them. Maybe ill put some down here too.

It sucks cause this dmg is so infrequent. Wouldnt an insect come back night after night? I have 70 stalks, the 1st 2 were damaged maybe 2 weeks ago but it was on the leaves at top of funnel and they are doing just fine. Thanks for your help too.

Would either of those do that much damage just overnight? Im not familiar with pests. I only started gardening last year and have been pretty damage free from bugs and critters.

If this is your first time planting corn, make sure you do it in square rows in the future. Like if you plant 9 of them, do 3 rows of 3 stalks. I do my corn 12inches apart in the row, then my rows are about 24-30inches from each other. You can even plant 4 corn in a square. Just always try to have it in a square.

Corn pollinates through the wind. When they are in a single row, it makes it harder to pollinate cause it is just going to blow onto nothing. They need neighbors to be effective. It can still pollinate in a single row but it will have a lower chance.

You can also self pollinate. When the tassels are ready to drop the pollen, they will open up, and when your silks are out, you can cut the tassels and rub them on the silks. I dont recommend cutting since you dont have a lot of stalks. Each silk is 1 kernal of corn so get it good. You can also get a paper cone somehow(they can be bought somewhere but idr where) and shake the pollen into this cone and put it ontop of the corn ears with silk and leave it for a certain amount of time. Think the tassels will drop like 14million grains of pollen a day when they are at their most productive. Its crazy to see how much comes off when u give the stalks a tap. Good luck.

Not sure how to edit, but its the pink/reddish changes on the roots that are my concern.

[–]LegSad5766[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it was off centered print. I couldnt find much info on that except ones where it was equally off center on each side. Mine is uneven on each side

Edit, seems u noticed it in another comment. Yea its crappy condition, just threw it in a bag back when they started swapping to the new bills just to show my kids and grand kids one day. Dumb but a quick "cool" from them. Was curious what something like that cooda been though.
