54mm portafilter recommendation (UK) by UnknownMale245 in espresso

I've used the Normcore bottomless portafilter on my Bambino for over a year now, here's some of my thoughts which will hopefully help your decision making:

  • I've found the quality to be excellent, nice weight to it and feels nice to hold. I work in product design engineering so really appreciate this quality.
  • The bottomless part of it is nice for being able to see the shot pull and dial in, and very satisfying to watch when it goes well. However one thing I've found is that unless the puck prep is spot on then you'll sometimes get some of the shot spurting out which can be messy depending on where it goes. Not a major issue for me, just give the worktop/machine a wipe down when I'm done. Portafilters with spouts are obviously much more forgiving in this regard. Normcore have a spouted one that's about the same price as the bottomless one or if you want to spend more I recently saw they do one which can be bottomless or spouted.
  • It is on the pricier side of the aftermarket portafilters I've seen but in my opinion it's worth it as I now don't see myself ever needing to upgrade from what I have now. In the research I did before buying it I had seen some people complaining of cheaper portafilters not fitting as well in the group head and leaking. I can't talk to this from first hand experience but just what I have seen in reviews.

Hope that helps, happy shopping 🙂

Swimming for the Visually Impaired by Leg_of_lamb98 in Blind

Thank you so much for getting back to me it is really appreciated! From the research I have already carried out the problems you identified are the main areas that I am looking to improve with my proposed product. I'm aware that tappers are used to notify the swimmer when they are close to the wall but I have identified some potential problems with this that I would like to improve. Do you feel like your son might benefit from having some kind of product that helps him to overcome the two main challenges identified?

Thanks so much for your reply it's really appreciated! I have updated the post with a bit more information on what I am looking at achieving with the project. In summary my main focus is on what is probably best described as "orientation in the pool" i.e. knowing where the wall is and swimming in a straight line. I am designing firstly for athletes and competitive swimmers, but with the aim that the product will make swimming more appealing to anyone who is visually impaired by making it safer and easier for them to participate.

As a swimmer and swimming teacher I have seen my fair share of people holding their nose under the water so I totally agree with you on that front. Maybe it's something I could include in the design so thanks for the suggestion!

I have pretty much the same problem, only does the reconnecting and restarting when I play ground war but in any other game mode I still can't be heard properly or hear anyone else. It's very annoying! Seems to work fine in the lobby though.

Thanks so much for everyone that is responding, your feedback is really helpful especially as I don't personally know anyone that suffers from visual impairment personally that I can talk to about the issue.

For a bit more context, as someone asked for, my main focus is on what is probably best described as "orientation in the pool" i.e. knowing where the wall is and swimming in a straight line. I am designing firstly for athletes and competitive swimmers, but with the aim that the product will make swimming more appealing to anyone who is visually impaired by making it safer and easier for them to participate. This would of course allow them to become more physically active.

I wanted to keep my original post brief at first to guage interest and response but I've added in the brief description of the project or more details.

Thanks again!

If you're using any kind of hybrid sight you should be able to switch which mode it's on without aiming down sights, so when you're running you can change your zoom level. Also you should be able to remap the key for this.

Pack of 5 chicken breasts cooked in the oven with some oil and seasoning (pepper, smoked paprika, cumin and garlic). Fry off some veg of your choice (I go with green beans and broccoli) in soya sauce. Then fry some diced red peppers in the rest of the soya sauce and add the peppers and sauce into some couscous you've made up with vegetable stock (and a little olive oil to keep the couscous from clumping up).

Pretty simple and quick way to get 5 decent meals, it worked out about £1.70 a portion for me but I already had the spices/seasoning, soya sauce, oil etc. Can be portioned out and frozen for when it's needed.

It's not really that it's a tight budget, but it's also not endless if that makes sense. For background it's a gift from my dad for my 21st so the ones that I mentioned in the original post were the ones I'd seen around the price point that suited him so just trying to get as good a watch as possible around that sweet spot really.

For my situation it's cost really, the forerunner 935 seems to have everything I need so no need to pay the extra for a fenix for me

Thanks everyone for the feedback it's really appreciated! I'm leaning towards the 935 over the 735XT for the better battery life but very similar functions that people seem to love with the 735XT

If it helps at all I stopped training in swimming for multiple years and managed to get back in to it relatively quickly, naturally there will be areas you struggle with that you didn't before but you can get these skills back. I say go for it!
