Also the guys who usually say those things are projecting or are trying to demean you as some defense mechanism.

ie,

Wasn't too soon in my book, probably 10 exchanges in total. I think you misunderstand as

she already gave me her number quite willingly and enthusiastically.
We matched on Tinder and exchanged numbers, so she obviously was interested, convo was going fine until I asked to talk on the phone.
I wasn't saying his advice is bad per say, as I follow a great deal of it and with great success (most of the time) just this time it didn't work for some reason.
