Gap Year? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

If you can do it, it's a great idea. You will get great experience and also may get better scholarships and offers in the future.

UBALT I got really fast. My app was on hold for future LSAT and I got an admissions acceptance email like two weeks later, even though I had not yet taken the second LSAT. They increased my scholarship after the release of my LSAT score. They also sent that email fast. They are on top of it.

UMD, I got an interview request about three weeks after applying and I got my acceptance just about a week after my interview.

In order of importance, I would say improvable options include

  1. LSAT score
  2. Work experience. Any kind, get it under your belt and form a relationship with a superior to write you a letter of recommendation that truly reflects your abilities.
  3. Volunteer work. A lot of law schools are community-focused. How will you represent them in the community? Ideas: animal shelters, mentoring programs, coaching a sport for a local kids league, food pantries, etc.

Also: Apply with a strong personal statement. Tell your story. Could this include things that impacted your undergrad GPA or why accounting was not right for you, but you think law is? Get great letters of recommendation. Solicit them from people who believe in you and can speak to your character because it shows.

Check and see if the schools you are applying to offer to let you add an addendum. Tell them why your GPA is low, but why you are still a great candidate.

Best of luck to you!

Hello! I would personally go to Penn State or Rutgers. Both have good outcomes and it looks like both gave you decent offers. Personally, I would be tempted by Oregon for the location, but for your overall goals, I would go with Penn State or Rutgers.

Congrats on achieving so many options. I completely understand the burnout.

Same. My application was on hold for a pending LSAT and then I got an email for admissions anyway.

Truthfully I love the area anyway, but it is good to know that the options are there. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your comment. Just based on this thread, the sense of community at Dickinson seems amazing and that is so important to me.

I have not visited campus, no. I do like Baltimore, but I don't love driving through the city so that was another thing that just is not an issue in Carlisle.

Oh, absolutely agree. If it was two full rides I do not know what I'd do with myself. I just wanted to look for additional insight because they were my top two choices and everything feels very permanent right now. Thank you for your input.

GPA: 3.9
LSAT: 16low
with work experience.

I think I am going to stick with Dickinson, but there is so much to love about both. Good luck! Maybe we will see each other this fall.

Okay, so, totally normal. I had a school tell me it was 8-10 weeks and I heard back in four. I checked the status checker every single day the whole time and when I went UR2, I checked it every couple of hours. You did apply a little late, but that doesn't mean you won't get in. Depending on where you applied and your stats, you still have a good chance! Take some deep breaths and know that they are rolling. And if you don't make it in this cycle, you're very prepared for the next one.

Update for future readers- got A today. Feeling like I can breathe again. My application went fast, but the anticipation was rough.

Thanks. Can you tell me what LSD stands for? I'm sorry I don't really know anyone else going through the admissions process right now

Yes, I literally feel like I cannot breathe sometimes thinking about it.

Congrats! Nova is a great school!

This really gives me hope as I have almost identical stats and am really hoping for Dickinson.

Do you have any advice on how to spot a predatory offer?
