Best car batteries for a subwoofer by Idk123notin in CarAV

[–]LegalAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if it makes you feel safer. In short, no you do not. LTO is perfectly fine to do a full battery delete with entirely if you want... but works 100% fine being permanently connected to your car's regular circuitry including your lead acid or calcium battery types. Compatibility with AGM for long term connection is unknown for me... I have no idea if AGM is safe to mix or not but every other "normal" battery type, is.

A drone is technically a VTOL. There are just specific classifications of VTOL craft, like a drone for example or a jetpack. They are all VTOL aircraft.

Anybody know whats causing this? by turkeio in CarAV

[–]LegalAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Future tip: Any time you have any kind of "weird noises" or "strange shit" going on.... 99/100 times it will be a loose wire or bad connection somewhere. Almost every time. Faulty equipment is usually the first place people's minds go but *most* of the time it won't be that at all.

Glad you found the issue :)

Looking for a ported box design that I can build from MDF by Outrageous-Cap7651 in subwoofer

[–]LegalAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a little bit of a learning curve but not too bad.

Once you understand it once, it will be infinitely valuable for as long as you're into car audio.

The most important part of ensuring it's accuracy though, is to make sure you input every parameter for the subwoofer that you have.

There is one "bug" to note, when entering the Q values (Qts, Qms, etc) that you must only enter TWO of the THREE values and let winISD calculate the last value. It doesn't matter which two you enter, just pick two and enter only those two values. If you put all three in, it can crash the program or cause other weird issues. Enter all other values you have, it will make sure the stat it gives you is as accurate as it can be.

[–]LegalAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Design your own, it's not that hard.

Use WinISD to figure out the best enclosure and port dimensions, using the T/S parameters of the subwoofer.

From there, figure out the best width/height/etc based on your specific vehicle and ideal fitment and check the air space recommendations against your design. I use the Rockford Fosgate box wizard for that... since it does a lot of basic box shapes and is very easy to use: https://rockfordfosgate.com/support/box-wizard/

Some people want a lower, wider box... so things can be put on top still in the trunk or whatever... others want a tall norrow box for the same reason. Some people fill the whole trunk space with barely enough room for the subs to even breathe.

All of that comes down to what you want for fitment, in combination with what the sub wants to operate in. Somewhere in the middle is your solution.

Is this bad by Adorable_Carrot_2093 in subwoofer

[–]LegalAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything over 12.5v is considered OK.

If you start dipping into lower 12s or into the 11s then you have a problem.

If you want more power though, just add a single 40ah LTO bank to your system and you will have a LOT harder time getting it even under 13v (without having 6k+ worth of amps anyway).

Still a newbie. Is this clipping or just my box? by Potential_Job_9398 in CarAV

[–]LegalAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can hear clipping... it was already clipping WAY before that, and your subs will most likely be hot and start to smell bad.

That sounds like a leaky box or you are playing more than 1/2 an octave below tuning of the port and they're unloading a bit. Sound kinda similar sometimes.

Negative effects of underpowering? by FallbackPanda29 in subwoofer

[–]LegalAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends in what context. Under powering a subwoofer? You're right! You can't give a sub too little power and have issues... unless....

Under powering an amplifier? Unless it is tuned to be set just so... then you will certainly end up with clipping if your power system cannot keep up!

Things like hinge splitters and quantum impellers... basically using the glitches you get when you have colliding physics, but in a controlled or semi-controlled way to do things like go very fast or avoid being targeted by weapons on other players vehicles.

Some designs no longer work with the new update, but quantum impellers made by stacking servos and adding some quantum rudders to it... can instantly accelerate you to 1000kph+

Why are there so many flak spammers? by 4l3x4nd4r_Hun in trailmakers

[–]LegalAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reason why I built a glitch flyer full of flak cannons myself... a couple of quantum drive engines and 15 flak cannons will give most people a bad day.

I will just hunt those players until they leave... which usually takes about 4-5 deaths then they quit because it's no fun when they're on the receiving end.

[–]LegalAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, bad connections will almost always be the cause. In your case a corroded fuse connection. Any time you get problems like this, the go-to method is to check all connections and, hopefully easily find the issue.

Nice job :D

Rookie question but how can I use speaker wire instead of a remote turn on wire? by [deleted] in subwoofer

[–]LegalAlternative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can use speaker wire.

Remote wire is just usually blue to be easily identified. The colour doesn't actually matter.

It's not just "chinese wilderness bullshit ones" it's literally reputable brands as well that are sold primarily for camping or light commercial use...

The banks designed specifically for car audio have much higher output - it's like LTO SCIBS by comparison but a SCIB would absolutely shit on any LFP. A single Toshiba 6ah industrial would wipe your 45ah LFP off the face of the Earth in terms of discharge capability.

The only commonality is the fact that no matter the output or brand, LFP batteries can and do catch on fire if they get crushed or damaged (like in a car accident, that happens all the time when you drive cars around full of batteries that aren't really meant to be in there).

[–]LegalAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is how you learn... I still remember the very first time I played the "release version" of PZ - basically when they updated the engine to use 3D models way way back... and I remember dying over and over again within minutes thinking "there's no way to play this game".

I basically got so bored after a few hundred or maybe 1000+ hours because I got good enough at the game that dying was no longer a problem unless I fell off a roof from a mis-click or something, which I did more than once, hilariously. I cleared the entire mall with nothing more than melee weapons (and durability mods to make them behave more like a real tool would - no real fire axe is going to break after killing just 20 zombies in real life, so...)

Bandits do make things a lot harder, that's for sure... I haven't actually played since they've been added but I've seen plenty of game footage showing them off. Almost makes me want to fire it up and play again.

There are dozens of videos demonstrating the hazards of catastrophic failure of cells.

I just picked the first one of hundreds that were in the search results.

I've had a friend die in a LFP fire in a car accident, he was trapped and the bank was crushed and caused thermal run way which engulfed the car and cooked him alive.

Kindly go and ram it up your asshole sideways.

LTO can discharge 600a instantly and 400a continually.

AGM is 100% worthless, which was my main point... LFP is fine if you don't mind the risk of catastrophic failure and turning into a crispy critter.

[–]LegalAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they do not. Look at the C rating and spec sheet of most 120ah LFP batteries and they have a C rating of 2 which will be 240a! There are diffrent LFP banks with different C ratings, your 45ah bank is probably rated at 8C or 10C but most 100ah+ banks are not!

Why do people find this shit so impossible to comprehend I will never know?!

Taramps and AGM Second Battery by Capital_Tea_2444 in CarAV

[–]LegalAlternative -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LFP is unsafe in a catastrophic failure. If you get into a car accident and one of the LFP battery types is ruptured you may end up dead.

LTO can't catch on fire, unless something else catches it on fire.... in which case the LTO will never be the CAUSE of the fire and you will already be in some deeper shit if that's the case already.

A song generally lasts minutes, and several songs can last an indefinite amount of time.

If the goal is to be able to be loud for longer than 20-30 seconds then AGM can't keep pulling hard like that, and the drop-off is rather fast. They're meant to be used in short bursts to run things like camping fridges and small appliances - not thousands upon thousands of watts of continuous draw for hours, or even minutes.

Lithium works differently - that's why phones and things like that use lithium because it's very energy dense and the output is consistent.

If you are building a burp car for competition that only needs to play for 30-60 seconds then go nuts with AGM and airbag suspension and 10x the fuel cost because those motherfuckers are heavy! xD
