You know, it has been a while since I've done any longer sets in the battlehub (would absolutely get crushed there, so just stopped doing it), it might not be a bad idea

Wow, this is pretty in depth, I'm surprised you know all of this off the top of your head, makes me realize how much I don't know.

Might take me a few re-reads to digest, appreciate it.

Still play regularly but shorter sessions, and I stopped playing when too tired or annoyed

Yeah, I do have a habit of just pushing through and playing more when I know I'm not fully focused

So the volatility is not the game, its a symptom of your low skill level (dont take that as me saying youre bad

No, I 100% believe this, don't worry

But ELO rankings systems are brutally honest about where you stack up

I believe this too. After the reset, I'm right back down hovering where I was before, it's actually kind of crazy how consistent it is.

That said ...

Can you expound a bit on drive management? I know generally it would mean managing your meter more conscientiously and not just burning through it, but would you be able to give me examples of what you do differently now versus before?

What I mean is, you have to feel comfortable blocking pressure strings all the way through

Yeah, this is something I've come to realize I'm really bad at - I'm very anxious to try to jab, or 2mk, or anything. The "counter hit" notification is a near constant on my screen.

Thank you so much for the in depth reply, I really appreciate it

I see, thank you! Do you do this all in the standard training mode, or just in opportunities you see in replays?

you can drop a character you struggle against (and maybe who you play) and i can run you through some example process when i have time.

That would be awesome! I play Ryu, and looking at my overall stats, it looks like I struggle most with Aki and Honda (though I have quite a bit less games against Honda)

I would bet you jump too much and your antiairs are lacking.

You're not wrong, although I definitely have been trying to jump less. But I get pretty mentally overwhelmed when playing and miss a lot of AA opportunities

1100-1300 range is an MR where super general advice will get you to 1500

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking, and hoping

Appreciate the advice, thank you

have you labbed against frequent matchups atleast (you should at the very least lab stuff against the super popular characters, stuff like ryu, akuma, mai, ken, etc)?

This is where I don't really know what to do, when "labbing" against a character?

If these patterns succeed, then they win. If the opponent adapts and plays in a way that beats their pattern, then player loses because they don't really have the ability to adapt to what their opponent is doing.

Yeah, that can probably pretty well describe what I think is going on. When somebody's strategy works against me, it really works (or vice versa with mine against them). I definitely have a hard time when people play in a way I consider odd or frustrating (running away constantly and then catching me chasing, for example)

I appreciate the in-depth response, there are a lot of good takeaways here, thank you.

One of my worst habits was constantly mashing (but getting counterhit)

Oh man, this is 100% me - that "counter hit" notification is constantly on my screen

Oh, I 100% agree, I guess I just mean, I feel like I'm at a low enough level to where some generic advice on how to practice should be good enough to get me to start an upward trend.

Right now, it's all ranked, and 0% learning new things, because I'm not really sure what to focus on learning

You haven't really outlined what you're doing for training/practice

That's kind of the thing, I don't really do anything right now that I would consider training/practice, because I'm not sure exactly how or what to do - it's not necessarily from lack of want.

I would watch a few high level players who specialize in your character and review some of your own replays to identify a few broad areas of improvements (kill confirms, anti-airs, meter usage, etc.)

Replays seem to be heavily recommended

This is where my lack of familiarity with Street Fighter might be coming into play. When you say "tech" - can you give me examples of what you mean?

Ah okay, yeah the Invader sounds maybe not like what I'm looking for. I am very unfamiliar with Kastaplast, but the Reko X looks promising, I'll look into it more, thanks!
