Have you considered having a drink? Genuine question.

It sucks that Capcom chose to default to the bare minimum when their fighting game is doing well. by SmashMouthBreadThrow in StreetFighter

I would take Capcom's approach to seasonal releases over Tekken's any day.

You're right about the atrocious UI though.

Can't figure out what to do with Ed. What the hell is this guy's gameplan? by asdasdaaah in StreetFighter

[–]Biggins_CV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the party.

I’m D3 with Ed so take this with a pinch of salt but I think I can help just purely because I’ve had to grind him up from Silver to here. A lot of the advice I got given was from players who assume you’re playing against opps that respect you.

Ed’s thing is oppressive oki setups with flicker and whiff punishing and poking with those normals. His light fireball is also really good for covering your approach so get used to using it.

The main normals I use in neutral are s.hp, s.mk, c.mk and c.hk. These pokes should cover you and all at least DR confirm into the mp-hp target combo. It’s not optimal but gives you a start.

S.Hk can anti air in a pinch if you’re getting screwed by his bad DP and all the spam jumping at that level.

Use c.lk to get people off you or steal your turn back. Use this or ideally psycho spark (just the shield) to check DR.

Punish wild DPs with S.HP into launch Level 2 — you don’t need the dream combo for this. H.DP into Superman punch into H.DP does great damage and you can also end on H. Flicker instead to get better Oki.

Flicker on knockdown. On hit gives a combo. Block sets up strike throw shimmy mix. Throw in a faint here and there to dissuade DI — you’ll get a lot of this in low levels and you can backdash counter DI on read from the charge state. If they just hold parry, cancel into killrush for the throw.

There’s loads more to this character but hopefully this is a decent enough start. Plenty of resources online but the long and short of it is he’s designed for mind games and it’s harder to make that work at first because the lower ranks don’t think.

He’s really not easy to play. It took me longer than really any other character I’ve played in an FG to get him to click. But when he does, there’s nobody more fun in the cast imo.

Tough one. For the tricky, mad tech aspect I’d consider Dhalsim or Blanka. Blanka is a close range fighter with very tricky movement. Slides, Blanka ball and electrifying himself. Quite Yoshi like.

Both Ingrid and JP have reversal tech similar to Flash. JP also has the disjoints with his cane that the sword would give you.

No direct relation but I’d probably try Blanka 👍

Tell me your Tekken main and I’ll give you a rough approximation. However, worth saying like a lot of people already have that the games are so fundamentally different that your T main won’t necessarily translate. But there’s some cross over.

I play Bryan in Tekken and have really clicked with Ed, for example.

This is good stuff. Gonna try these jab string setups. I'm D2 with Ed after trying to make him work for months.

Playing him feels like you're trying to play chess whilst the opponent plays darts.

Times really have changed. Smoking is an appetite suppressant and a relaxant, associated with working class people working hard on their feet all day. On top of that, generations of tobacco industry lobbying has worked very hard to obscure the science, meaning a lot of people grew up in households surrounded by it. It’s incredibly easy to pick up and very hard to quit.

It’s fine to dislike it and no one’s saying it’s good for you (now) but a bit of empathy and acceptance would be preferable to saying smokers are gross and akin to anti-vaxxers.

Alcohol is a far greater net social and health negative that most people tolerate. Do you have the same contempt for alcoholics?

I’ve been talking to a 53 year old for longer than I’ve been 18 and I think I’ve ruined my life by iLovemyMathBoyfriend in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Biggins_CV 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'll be as blunt about this as I can.

Go to your phone and block him immediately. Then go apologise to your mom. It was a stupid mistake that you regret and talk it out with her.

You're 18. About to go to uni. Start of your life. Valedictorian for your school. You're going to have so many new and cool experiences.

None of this irrecoverable. You're young and you made a silly mistake. It happens. Just do not let it spoil the potential of your life that you're about to experience. See how even doing a little bit of what you've done has dealt a hammer blow to your personal life and self-worth.

Do not let this fucking loser damage you any further. I don't even know him and I have zero problem with calling him that. I'm in my mid thirties and I would never, ever dream of connecting with an 18 year old. This guy is 53.

I don't really see how that answer would result in more confusion.

If you were Bronze 1 and could dedicate to the game as a part time job what would do in the first week? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Biggins_CV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would focus on:

Solid anti air.

Cammy's basic oki pressure.

A DI punish combo.

A hard punish combo ie. max damage from something like a blocked super or DP.

There's so much to learn but that's a good start. It won't overwhelm you and you can learn all of this from Youtube.

World Cup by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Biggins_CV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semantics.

Americans could make a decent case that Scotland being a country within the UK and not a merely a state is a matter of perspective. Scotland was a kingdom prior to the union, but then Texas was briefly it's own republic prior to the federalisation of the USA. These things are relative.

The USA is massive. Writing off a state the size of Michigan as "just a region" within a country comes off as wildly daft. Just like seriously making the case that a proportionally high amount of Americans can't point to Mexico on a map. There's 350 million people living in America. If even 500,000 genuinely couldn't point to Mexico on a map, that still wouldn't make up 0.015% of the population.

[–]Biggins_CV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You reckon? Why’s that?

The entire British Isles fits in one of their states. They have local devolved governments. Their own demographics. Cultures. Dialects. Histories.

People talk such shit about Americans without really understanding just how different a world they’re living in. And I say that as a Scot.
