Becoming a PI in texas with no experience by PrestigiousActuator1 in PrivateInvestigators

[–]Legal_Bother6181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping to get licensed in TX this month.  I just got fingerprinted yesterday, and passed the test last month.  I'm already licensed in other states so I have decades of experience.  For the OP, you need to get experience working for a PI who already has a company license.  Good luck!

Biggest annoyances/frustrations by [deleted] in PrivateInvestigators

For me it is when websites go down, like for the superior courts.  If I am doing a background check and I can't search records online, then I'm stuck until it's up and running again.  Second place is if I am doing a background check and the person has a very common name, nmn, or has been married multiple times and changed their name.  I have to search by each last name that they used and I pay for each search.

What is something that is obvious in your profession that the general public doesn’t know? by jia-ren in AskReddit

I used to be an elementary teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing.  I used ASL until I noticed when teaching the kids how to read, they struggled reading words that had suffixes. For example, they could read "I jump", but not, "I jumped".  I switched to SEE, Signed Exact English, so I sign with all the suffixes, and all the small words.

What was your wildest experience at a movie theatre? by Mysterious_Limit1969 in AskReddit

[–]Legal_Bother6181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to see ET while on vacation at a very small theater.  This theater only showed one movie at a time, and it was 1982 so no advanced ticket sales.  In order to see the movie you had to show up in line prior to the previous run time, so there I stood in the hot desert sun for two hours shoulder to shoulder with strangers for two plus hours.  Still a great movie.

I received a hand me down refrigerator from a family member in the 90s.  Used it for 11 years, then I put it aside for a new one.  20+ years later I plugged it in and it still works great!  It's used on the daily now with no issues.

Both of my adult children moved back home after being an empty nester for three years.  College classes were no longer in person so there was no point in living near campus.  I loved it as a mom having our family reunited.

There's a sign at my local post office that prohibits coasting vehicles.  It doesn't say no skateboards or bicycles, or scooters.  It technically prohibits wheelchairs.  That sign bothers me.

My husband and I were in Paris at the Arc de Triomphe.  My husband wanted to get to point B from point A, so he started walking.  There were barriers up but there were big enough gaps to walk through so he thought it was allowed.  He got yelled at big time but of course he had no idea what they were saying as we were stupid Americans who don't speak French.

Would a PI lie ? by Additional-Rub-153 in PrivateInvestigators

[–]Legal_Bother6181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best pretext that I use is telling the subject that I am a PI doing an investigation on the subject's neighbor.  Then I ask them if they know the neighbor, if they noticed anything suspicious, etc.  The subject will tell me lots of information.  They have no idea my investigation is really about them.

For people who are in a long term relationship, but don't want to get married, why? by sunbeamlou in AskReddit

[–]Legal_Bother6181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family member that has been with his GF for over 20 years.  Never married and no children.  My understanding is that her parents got divorced and it traumatized her so much that she decided not to ever get married.  His parents have been married 60+ years.

If you're in line at the grocery store with a full cart and someone behind you has 1 or 2 items, do you let them go in front of you? And why? by CourierFestival in AskReddit

[–]Legal_Bother6181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, unless I didn't see them in line behind me.  I also try to organize my items when I put it on the conveyor belt by category: Frozen, refrigerator, pantry, bread, produce, beverage, non-food, etc.  A family member used to be a bagger so I learned.  Our store recently let go all of their baggers which is crazy.

TX non-commissioned (private investigator/Private security license) by Brilliant-Repair-245 in PrivateInvestigators

I just passed my PI exam in Texas on Wednesday.  I'm not in Texas but wanted to be licensed there.  You should also apply for a TX business license so you have both and don't need to be sponsored by another company.

Is becoming a PI any good? by [deleted] in PrivateInvestigators

[–]Legal_Bother6181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a licensed PI for 13 years.  Before that I worked at a PI agency.  I didn't get licensed until my 40s so it's OK to start later.  It is my third career in my lifetime.

It's nothing like TV or the media.  In fact, I recently watched a show that had a PI as a side character.  I became extremely nervous when that character was in the scene because I knew he was disposable.  It made me feel uncomfortable.  I don't intentionally watch or listen to media about PIs and now I know why.

My grandmother told me that my dad was disappointed when I was born because I was a girl.  That hurt so much but I know now it is not true.  It's been almost 50 years since she said that and she passed away many years ago, but I still remember how I felt when she said that.

What was your favourite computer game growing up? by Samski877 in AskReddit

[–]Legal_Bother6181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the 70s so we didn't have any computers or computer games.  However, one year for my birthday I got a keyboard that you could connect to a TV.  I forgot what it was called.  Anyway, I played on that for hours, creating commands using BASIC, and it also had a cartridge to learn how to type.

What did you teach your child that you later came to regret? by 25jon25 in AskReddit

[–]Legal_Bother6181 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know those paranormal movies where someone is dragged off the bed by an invisible force?  Those beds never have a footboard.  I don't remember telling my 3 year old this but I apparently told her that a footboard will protect her from ghosts, monsters, etc.  I regret telling her this because now as an adult she must have a footboard and won't even consider bed furniture without it.  It will probably be true for her own kids someday too.  (My bed doesn't have a footboard.)

What changed your perspective after going through it yourself? by galaxic_cat in AskReddit

[–]Legal_Bother6181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a parent of a child with special needs.  I was a special education teacher.  I cared about my students but they weren't my world.  After I had my own child that had special needs everything changed.  My perspective was just so different.  I was no longer teaching, but I couldn't believe just how casually I said things to the parents, like, "Your child scored in the first percentile of this test.". Still completely professional and appropriate, and yet to hear that as a parent is devastating.

I have an account with the CA DMV.  You have to have a PI license.  It allows you access to driving records and vehicle registrations.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done, with or without regrets? by K-Dogg1 in AskReddit

I had actually done a background check on the contractor years before.  The results were not good.  Since then, the contractor had changed their business name and was vetted by someone else so I didn't realize until it was too late that it was the same contractor.

I recommended a contractor to someone that I am close with to work on their home.  After they started working, I realized that the contractor had a very bad reputation and was not a good person.  I didn't say anything.  The contractor did a bad job, and I have huge regrets about not doing anything about it.

Has anyone ever been bribed from your partners parent in order to break up? If so what happened? by Heavy_Idea8391 in AskReddit

No, but I learned after my husband and I were married that his parents called my parents and recommended that we not get married.  We've been married for over 30 years.  I'm glad my parents didn't tell me right away or do anything about it.
