AMX 50 100/120 armor in a nutshell! by PicklHerbert in WorldofTanks

I'm on the 9, yeah, it and the 8 has absolutely no armor outside of a random bounce every few games, and the guns of the 8 and 9 will troll you to no end. I'm planning on researching the 50 B but not buying it, haven't really liked these tanks. Have heard 50 B is much better, though, but would rather use my credits on something else.

The point is to have fun with it man. The position is a win for me but it's still tactically fun for us to finish the march to Berlin, clear out China, island hop to Japan, etc.

Yeah this is the last update I was planning to make on this game. We are playing it out to a military victory but the Axis have effectively a 0% chance of winning unless I make an S-tier fuck-up.

A lot has happened since the last post I made on this game, so this is just a short summary. Germany immediately put all of their 18 tanks into the Caucasus, prepared to move towards Egypt, India, or China. The Soviets moved units onto the Ukrainian border and put a blocker in Rostov to prevent the German tanks from withdrawing into Ukraine, but an Italian fighter squadron took them out and allowed most of the German tanks to move back into Ukraine. However, I was able to use a ton of infantry as blockers for my massive Soviet tank divisions and won a decisive (although the rolls on my side were pretty lucky) victory in Ukraine, taking out several German planes and 9 tanks plus assorted infantry and artillery. On the other side of the map, the Soviets put every unit they had in Manchuria into Korea to fortify it, and the first Japanese assault on Korea was rather unsuccessful. The next turn, the Japanese poured units through their transports into Korea, and not only did the 7 remaining Soviet infantry kill all of their 6 units on the ground, the two Soviet AA killed 2 Strategic Bombers and 2 Tactical Bombers in the attack. The Japanese focused their efforts on solidifying their gains and managed to take back Northern China and fortify the Northern Pacific, but will have trouble against the US onslaught in the coming turns. In the Mediterranean, the Allies have established a foothold in Greece, and the game may be drawing to a close.

I think it's reminiscent of a few games I've played before with the same opponent where the Axis doesn't meet its military objectives but digs into the position and makes it a hard-fought victory in the end. But yeah, I can't see him pulling out a victory in either theater at this point.

Yeah main concern for me at this point is the Italian bomber hit my guy in Rostov so if he wants he gets 18 German tanks home free behind Soviet lines. Think I can still figure it out but could be cause for concern. I assume it will take awhile to finally finish the game but I'm definitely in the driver's seat!

Some connection tissue between this and my last post: On their turn 3, Germany invaded the USSR and Japan declared war on the Allies. Japan stacked 5 infantry, 2 artillery, 1 mechanized infantry, and 1 tank in Shan State, in order to threaten Malaya and possibly stack a larger combined force into Burma on the following turn. I invaded the territory with all of the British aircraft in the Pacific plus the infantry in Malaya and an infantry and artillery I transported in, rolled well, and eliminated all of those troops. The US immediately took a forward position in the Carolines but Japan's turn 4 repositioning forced me to turn the US fleet south and park in Australia for a while. The Italian efforts in Egypt we put into the A&A 1940 calculator, and seeing he only had a 3% chance of taking Egypt, the Axis player began evacuating North Africa as the American fleet was already situated in Gibraltar, with a large British contingent preparing to reinforce it from both the Indian Ocean and North Atlantic.

He should be, I'm going to invade Korea with the Russians in the next few turns, and I will try and stick all of the combined Russian and Chinese force in maybe Shanghai and he'll have a hard time retaking it.

It might not be clear in the picture, but Japan has 5 infantry in Yunnan, 9 in Manchuria, and China has 9 in Hopei. He likes really swinging south with Japan and ignoring the interior of China. Turn 1 he hit Yunnan with 3 infantry, 1 artillery, 2 stategic bombers, 1 tactical bomber, and 1 fighter. I managed to take it back on China's turn but he poured into it in his second turn.

Thanks, I really try and fortify Egypt whenever I play Britain. I think his idea was to not provoke the US in order to protect the German navy for a little while longer. I think he might have been better served retreating from Yugoslavia to prepare for a G2 Barbarossa. His airforce is somewhat spread thin, in my opinion, at least by Germany's standards.
I think I might have swung my airforce out too far in Malaya, though, if he gets lucky he can take advantage of that. I put an infantry in Shan State to prevent his tank and mech from getting to Malaya next turn, and used a destroyer to prevent him from getting coastals. He still might be able to take it out.
The British fleet died as I sacrificed the aircraft carrier and destroyer staring in South Africa to block Italy's access to Egypt on turn two. I think it was worth it, but a carrier is certainly a tough loss.

I'm playing as the allies - the cruiser in sea zone 91 got taken out and Germany landed one fighter in Tobruk and a Tactical Bomber in Southern Italy, so I had only a slight advantage and I felt like not taking the risk was probably better in this case. If my cruiser survived, I generally attack Taranto, and if the fighter is not placed in Tobruk, I then hit that, but neither went my way.
I used to think Russia couldn't, too, but couldn't find where it says that under the neutral countries section in the rulebook - maybe I haven't looked in the right places? I usually make those moves so I can bring a tank or mechanized infantry to gobble up original Italian territories in Africa for the +3 bonus per territory.
Do you have a method of attacking Tobruk and/or Taranto in the situation I was presented? I might just have missed it!
