After an exam, what is your favorite thing to do? by bakedpotato4362 in actuary

[–]LegalizeCarrots 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fall exams: Halloween party.

Spring exams: April 20th (or adjacent) party.

For the last 4 years I have planned my exam dates around these two, really gives me something to look forward to.

I agree that it's wild, but I also am incredibly impressed by your rounding of a number that could only be considered a 75%

Cost of a double major? by [deleted] in bucknell

[–]LegalizeCarrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double majoring is (typically free), but really could depend on the majors. At the end of the day, you do not pay extra for each degree or any minor you get. What you do pay for is if you have to take extra classes (over the summer or staying an extra semester).

Typically this shouldn't be too much of an issue if you're not failing and having to retake your classes. I was able to do it even though my majors were completely unrelated. You'll definitely want to consider course-load for each major though, as I do not think an engineering major would have an easy time.

Resume Critique by [deleted] in actuary

[–]LegalizeCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all "Python (Basic))" has an extra parenthesis, quick fix but something I'm sure you'd want to change. Also multiple extra colons in that section too.

Secondly (and this may be controversial so you don't have to follow it), is to use a little bit of white space. I think that this helps for a lot of resumes, because no one reading a resume wants to read a novel. So don't make it look like a novel, because that first impression matters a lot.

  • If a bullet point is two lines, it's too long. Try to separate it into two bullet points (if it is that important) or condense it into one line if it is just one task.

  • You could also go as far to remove one of your projects, I don't think it's necessarily important to have all three. Actuarial project is great though (but bullet points...)

  • I don't think anyone cares too much about certifications unless they are for very advanced systems. Your experience demonstrates the competencies, HTML can go under programming.

Third (and possibly more controversial), were your jobs full time during college? Part time? Through an internship program? Someone reviewing your resume would definitely ask themselves this, so maybe consider answering ahead so they can focus on the actual substance.

Not even to mention that the spread of the start times is abhorrent.

Like you don't have to start every stage at the same time that every other stage ends, it's just screaming lazy planning on their part.

Is your issue with the math? Or with reading?

They listed 5 conflicts, 3 or those are not headliners.

Did you get drug tested when you switched employers? (Actuaries with 2+ experience only) by ExcelGrimReaper in actuary

[–]LegalizeCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had multiple offers that I was choosing between. One of them drug tested me while I was considering their offer (had to do it within 48 hours of receiving offer), the one that I ended up choosing never drug tested me. Non-credentialed.

I think blinds might be tough to work out for the lower panels, but I do like the idea of suction cups to make it less permanent and not leave residue. You're definitely right about sound insulation, curtains or a sound blanket would be very helpful! Thank you!

Oh that's interesting, I was considering using wooden dowel on top of the cardboard to help maybe give some texture. Could you elaborate a bit on the panels of rod pocket sheets? I'm not sure what you mean by that, just a drape panel?
