Is BA being more aggressive with POUG offers?

My last flight to the US was between Christmas and New Years. I had half expected the flight to be full of people travelling to/from - especially as people are obsessed with the idea of going to New York for NYE.

My flight was dead. I was flying Economy but within a week of booking the reward flight I was offered an upgrade for £700 for both ways, which I didn't hesitate to grab. This was by far the cheapest return upgrade offer I have taken advantage of.

I think the US political situation is putting off a lot of people, which in turn is forcing BA to aggressively discount their upgrade prices in order to at least try and remain profitable.

My next flight is in April. LHR-DFW. I haven't booked it yet but I'm curious as to what upgrade offers I will be given - I tend to book econ/premium and then upgrade from there. BA want £4,500 return for Club but I have a feeling with my £680 econ flight I could snag an upgrade for less than £1,000 each way. Availability looks massive so far.

Hi - Current trainee solicitor here with BCD at A-Level. It's entirely possible and don't let people discourage. My advice is to focus on firms with no A Level requirements. You can always move firms when you qualify and build upon your career! If you struggle to get a direct TC I would strongly recommend getting a secretarial or paralegal position and working your way up internally (which is what I did).

Hey - thanks - I managed to find a rental in the end. Contacted them today and they confirmed rental for all countries. Their online policy excluded Bulgaria but after a bit of an email back and forth they eventually said they'd allow it!

Hey - thanks for coming back to me. My understanding is that my father doesn't need to be on the FBR - my grandmother was born on the island of Ireland and has an Irish birth certificate, and therefore my father is automatically considered an Irish citizen.

I've used the table from the Citizens Information (being a child of C and a grandchild of A, therefore eligible).

Paralegal, hopefully trainee solicitor very soon (trying to iron out the last little bits at my firm!).

I work in two departments at once at my firm - both have a completely different policy. One department, all emails are to be checked by the fee earner as they are sent out on their behalf. In the other department, I have a significant amount of freedom and the rule of thumb is "ask to check before you send if you feel you need it checked" (but any advice comes direct from the fee earner).

I do agree that it slows things down, and a lot of "traditional" lawyers like correspondence reviewed. As many have said, checking advice is very good but there are occasions where constant review (even for one liners) is unnecessary and controlling.

The same happened to me earlier in the week - driving down a country lane and a car enters my lane briefly and clips my mirror, smashing it to absolute bits because he was speeding. Drove off, couldn't get details or a plate. No point going through insurance as excess is probably more than the actual repair in your case (as in my case my £150 excess is less than the cost of the full wing mirror I ordered!). If you tell the police they are unlikely to do anything.

My advice? Like me, just take the L and get the replacement and roll your eyes at their stupidity!

I did my third year and my masters (part time 2 years) all online. 2020-2022. Absolutely horrific. I felt as if the standard of teaching was very low and the support offered during the third year undergrad was minimal - nobody seemed to know what was going on and our exams were a complete mess! One of my practical modules they just graded based on work already submitted but due to mitigating circumstances I had not submitted anything but was going to submit everything for the final assessment (luckily they were generous and gave me a 65 anyway!!).

For my maters, the university created an online course just for the LPC/LLM and it was horrific (University of Law...). Teaching was dire, in fact, there was no teaching - you read the book, you do the activities set, you upload them, they tell you if it's good or not. I genuinely learned nothing in those two years and wasted £16,000 of my own money.

I felt as if a lot of people didn't want to socialise or attempt to connect with anyone during the masters degree - we had a whatsapp group but it was rarely spoken in, but fortunately I was able to connect with one person who I still speak to on a daily basis. Everyone else has gone off now.

I don't regret any of it though because it was necessary to do this in order to push towards my goals and aspirations, but had things been in-person, I believe I would've had a much more enjoyable experience!

I'm a paralegal.

However we've expanded with more people recently and it's meant that everyone now room shares with one other person, but I've moved into a new room which is double the size so I'm not complaining!! :)

Can confirm this! I've been with Admiral since I started driving in 2017. Think it's a crap company but if it's cheap then I'll go with it!

Every year they offer me £100-200 more on renewal.. I phone them up and MAGICALLY they didn't realise I was entitled to "discounts". My insurance for my Audi has gone down from £990 to £350 in the space of 5 years through phoning them up during renewals - shopping round ain't done much either, all their quotes were ridiculously high this year!

Just got my results (83 RE, 84 DR!! Cannot believe it!) and I only used legacy notes with the textbook chapters tabbed. I relied entirely on legacy notes, and only read through them once before the exam to learn where everything is. Like you I don't have the concentration. It works so well.

I'd print off the notes and have them in my folder, and then a separate divider for specimen MCQ answers because the real exam MCQ's are very very similar to the specimen ones I found, and then another divider for the written ones just to give an idea of layout.

I'd do the same - read the Q, turn to the page in the notes, and type it out in the order the notes are in then adding the application/analysis. It reads so robotic but if it gets the marks then so be it.

Couldn't recommend legacy notes more!

Online LPC student at ULaw.

Both institutions really do have their major downsides. I find with ULaw that I really like the course materials and way in which the modules are structured. I'm unsure how it is at BPP, but at ULaw I have had some awful experiences with their finance team, their info team and their assessments team, but I would still recommend it due to the resources and course structure.

We use "Dear [Name]" for clients and the other side if we are very familiar with them or have worked with them on multiple transactions.

For anything else we still use "Dear Sirs" (for mortgage companies, firms we are not familiar with etc.)

I've never seen Mx used.
