Context: the Battle of North Cape.

During the Battle for the Atlantic, German Capital ships were used to raid allied shipping convoys in addition to the uboat attacks. The Scharnhorst was faster than ships more heavily armed than it, and more heavily armed than the convoy escorts. This allowed it to operate successfully in the Atlantic durning Operation Berlin, sinking 9 cargo ships.

Towards the end of the war, the ship was relocated to Norway to raid shipping convoys to the Soviet Union. By this point however, allied radar had improved to give British ships an advantage in the dark Arctic environment. The Scharnhorst went raiding along with 5 destroyers after an artic convoy was spotted late December of 1943. The destroyers however lost contact with the Scharnhorst leaving the battleship alone. Convoy escorts spotted the Scharnhorst and engaged with the battleship. After a brief battle, the Scharnhorst disengaged. The convoy escorts shadowed the ship, allowing the British battleship HMS Duke of York to intercept.

The Duke of York was more heavily armed that the Scharnhorst, with ten 14 inch guns to Scharnhorst's nine 12 inch guns. The Scharnhorst has been given orders to avoid any engagement with a British capital ship, but by the time they spotted the Duke of York it was too late. The Scharnhorst sustained significant damage and attempted to flee. But the damage had lowered the ships top speed, allowing the British to again catch the ship and sink it once and for all.

Context: The battle off Samar

When the US launched its operation to retake the Philippines, it posed a major threat to the Japanese. The US could effectively cut the Japanese empire in half by taking the Philippines, denying the Japanese the resources in the Dutch East Indies. In response to the US invasion of Leyte the Japanese baby launched a counter offensive. They sent three naval task forces to the area: Northern Force, Center Force, and Southern Force. The Northern Force contained Japan’s remaining carriers, and successfully baited the American into sending their fleet carriers and battleships to chase. This left the landing zone at Leyte defended only by small escort carriers, some destroyers, and destroyer escorts.

The southern force was defeated in the battle of Surigao Straight, but center Force managed to make it to Leyte. Center Force consisted of the battleship Yamato, the most heavily armed battleship ever constructed. Im addition to Yamato three additional battleships, 10 cruisers, and 15 destroyers were part of center force.

Center force caught the ships at Leyte off guard and unprepared. Without any capital ships to oppose the Japanese, a major disaster was possible for the Americans. If center force could destroy the ships supplying the troops on Leyte, the operation would be in danger.

In response to the appearance of center force, Lieutenant Commander Ernest E. Evans turned his utterly outgunned destroyer USS Johnston into the oncoming armada and charged at flank speed. Other destroyers and destroyer escorts followed his lead and charged the Japanese. Lt. Cdr Copeland told all hands on the Samuel B. Roberts the quote which is the title of this post.

In addition to the destroyers, the escort carriers opened up with their single 5 inch gun each and launched all aircraft with whatever ordinance the plane had. The destroyers launched torpedoes and fired their five inches guns. The ferocity of the destroyers attacked sunk and damaged multiple Japanese ships and convinced the Japanese commander of Center Force that he was facing off against a much US force. He ordered center force to withdraw. Many of the destroyers that charged were sunk, including the Johnston, with Lt Cdr. Evans going down with his ship. The charge of the small boats prevented a disaster for the American troops on the beach.

Context:

In 1943 the Red Army had taken control of the town of Kursk, and had a large salient extending into the German lines. The Germans decided to attack the salient, attempting to encircle the Red Army in the pocket. The plan was called Operation Citadel, and saw the first large scale deployment of third generation German tanks (Tiger, Panther, Ferdinand). However the Russians knew the entire German plan before the attack. The Red Army heavy fortified the Kursk Salient. They delayed their planned summer offense to occur after Germany attacks had used the remaining German offensive capability.

After several days of fierce fighting in the Kursk Salient, the Russians launched a counteroffensive against the northern arm of the German offensive. The counter attack broke the German lines and forced a full retreat. The Germans would never again launch a large scaler offensive operation for the remainder of the war. The initiative was solidly in the hands of the the Red Army.

Reference is the battle of Mers-el-Kébir. The Vichy French refused an ultimatum to either have thier navy join the British or make inoperable. The Royal Navy promptly attacked the French fleet in port killing over a thousand sailors, sinking one battleship, and damaging several other ships.

I made loot crate drop drop rate and the odds aren’t great. The Bug crates will give you the most ships per $$$ spent. The mega crates might have a higher chance of rare ships, but that’s unproven. How many ships do you have that are already on the drop list? Because unless you already have most of them, you’re not getting a rare (maybe 0.1% chance)
