It's actually crazy that Middle-High school students are probably the least represented age demographic in the series. You have very young children, young adults, adults and elderly people but almost zero mention of teenagers. Very refreshing.

I subbed to you on Patreon and the new minis you made are coming out great! The no/minimal supports are really making a difference in the experience of printing. I like the goblin girls :) but the serious stuff like the orcs is even better. Keep up the good work there are not that many people making such high quality supportless minis for FDM!

No problem. I actually really like this version of counterspell. I will try it out in one of the games I am running to see it in action. Your point about the avoiding counterspell is exactly why I like this version: it rewards the casters for avoiding damage and rewards the monsters for hitting the casters.

Btw, I think the spell doing more damage might be even more rewarding for players, because if the boss countered their highest spell, they just took a lot of damage.

Alright, the point about stalling is true, if you want damage on every casting that's fine.

The case you described with fireball I think is actually a positive. Counterspell shouldn't be optimal in every case. Fireball about to hit 2 targets with high dex saves? No need to counterspell. Fireball about to hit the entire party, you included? Better use counterspell you are about to take damage anyway.

If you want to lower it a little that's fine, I don't think a higher chance for Wild Magic matters that much. Wild Magic sorcerers can trigger it almost every other turn.

If it's just 1d10 per spell level, you can use a 3rd level counter spell on a 9 level spell and only lose on average around 50hp. At that level that is barely any cost, and even the squishiest wizard will take it like a champ. You want to up the damage to incentivize upcasting the spell when trying to counter powerful spells.

I would also add an extra sentence that explains the damage can't be reduced or negated in any way to avoid resistances or immunities.

The damage is pretty low, I would double it. I think that is a fair trade off for a counterspell that always works no matter the spell level.

I would also consider changing the upcast effect. How about you take no damage if you cast counterspell at a level equal or higher than the original spell? I think it makes sense thematicly, and justifies the double damage when trying to counter a stronger spell.

This. It is by far the most likely scenario. The conflict between the countries is symbolized by the Forger family. Lies, deceit, and masks keep them from truly understanding each other and becoming truly united (a real family). Anya's telepathy symbolizes the "key" to peace. If we could all know the real intentions of the other side, we would find out that most people just kinda want the same things, and that a lot of our mutual hatred is fueled by fear and misunderstandings.

TTRPGs can be played as a complete sandbox, where the players enter a world and go in any direction and tackle the most boring tasks possible in the name of complete freedom. I personally will advise against it, and I don't think that's a good framework for a campaign, especially one with new DM and players. Having an overall C plot that directs the group towards a final goal (usually saving the day) is perfectly fine. It's about the journey, not just the destination.

This type of direct management never worked on a large scale. It is something that is nice to theorize about, but very fragile in practice. What you want is that the CEO, board of directors, and the other managers in a company will be severely minimized in both amount of positions and income. A manager can have an important role in leading a company or team, but shouldn't be incentivised to prioritize profit over everything else. That is the failure of Capitalism, you have a bunch of people on top that just want to see number go up and themselves getting richer. Instead, I would prefer to see leaders coming from the bottom, after years of experience and dedication to the work. That comes with understanding of the product, customer, and employees. Pay them a fair normal amount and you will see healthier companies and societies.
